King's Lynn V Lakeside Tues 31st Sky 7.30

Recommended Posts

Know exactly what you mean. This is our clubs 50th anniversary and I don't think I've known a more flat atmosphere around the club ever.

Last Thursday I was so bored. Maybe my expectations were set to high but the show Schlein put on really has made me think long and hard with regards to value for money.

I just felt so let down last week

I was so fed up I left after heat 11. Have I ever done that before? No! So yeah, I think the atmosphere is kinda flat at present. Although I think taking a 15 minute interval after all those delays when it was freezing cold was what really did it for me. That just took the biscuit. But I wonder if the riders really weren't that impressed with the racing surface and demanded a longer track grade and that was why they had the long interval? You never know...

I felt so cold! Surely this is a league meeting and everyone will be up for this? Hopefully it will be warmer too, it was literally too cold to enjoy it last week.

You know what, if we aren't up for this season then nobody will be!

I think when the Stars line up at the gate in the first race I reckon we will all be up for it and willing them on, just you lot wait haha!!!

That's if many people go... I've already seen quite a few people on Twitter saying that because it's on Sky, they will stay at home and watch on the TV...

Starting the week off with a moan is not normally my style, But what you say about the Reserves seem so unfair that we are the only team that suffered from the new regulations. Everyone else either bettered or retained their good pairings. I thought Garrity and Sarjeant were more than equal to Kerr and Rose and you have been able to keep them.....

... :D

Agree with what you have said. When I saw that coventry had 5th pick of 2nd reserve I was sure we would lose him but then Wolves went and surprised us and picked Bates.

Sarjeant is however graded as the lowest ranked tier 2 rider on the list out of the 8. Not sure how that happened.

Nothing surprises me as far as the BSPA are concerned. To grade Sarjeant as the lowest of 2nd tier is ridiculous. Nearly as bad as saying Newman was the worst in Tier A. But we all know: If the face fits, then anything can be achieved......

Real disadvantage for bees as if Sarjeant misses a meeting we would be in trouble guest wise.

Christ we've had a couple of meetings this season ONLY, one a testimonial and one a cup meeting and people are bemoaning the atmosphere, what is wrong with everyone!!

As for going to the Sky meeting, there are some that prob never go to them anyways and probably the freezing weather last week will make people think twice, Emma?

I do think that the management need to make the fans feel valued and involve them in the club, taking them for granted will not do!!

Agree about the atmosphere, very difficult to generate a good one when it's freezing cold and the meetings aren't serious competition. In those situations is up to the promotion to move things along swiftly and make the presentation more stimulating. Some warmer weather and meaty league matches should get everyone's pecker up again.

Two from this household won't be going either (plus I never had any intention of doing so).

If the cash flow situation won't allow a reduction on admission this early in the season (no idea if that's the case or not) an alternative would be discounted admission for a future meeting on production of tomorrows ticket.

I agree with most of the above, fans seem to be taken for granted not just by Lynn but the majority of promotions these days. Rory set the benchmark and I know it's easier to arrange a single meeting than a whole season but just a few little tweaks that don't necessarily cost that much, speeded up meetings, decent presentation an acknowledgement of the fans by riders (not a limp half heated wave) all go a long way when put together.

Trees, hubby said this morning he doesn't care if it's the fiftieth year or the seventeenth year and until the promotion get their act together promoting the fiftieth season I doubt anyone but die hards even realise

Just seen the two posts above this and I'd agree live speedway along with the don't give a toss attitude of promoters is helping to kill the sport. A highlights programme would be an ideal solution IMHO.

I'm a die hard and I've always attended Sky meetings at KL but other clubs offer discounts on admission Lynn offer nothing so why should I spend £50+on going when I can watch live on Sky ? I'd hope the lynn promotion would offer something but as I see it it's normal admission prices .

He will move up the list going by performances this season so far.

It's costing me an extra 3 quid at Brandon this season adult prices up a pound which I didnt have problem with but child prices have gone up from 3 quid to a fiver. Luckily I have a programme app so it's saves me 2.50 so I'm not really losing out. There will become a point were I a regular attendee since I was 4 to say enough is enough. I've paid the the same price (£23 for 1 adult and child) to watch Wasps v Leicester at the Ricoh Arena, they will have a fans zone and activities for the kids, plenty to do before and after. No surprise they've already sold 21,000 5 weeks before the date of the game.

Sorry to hijack the thread, King's Lynn to win by 10.

Sorry Trees for appearing to be all doom and gloom but I'm actually more excited looking at the PL this season :o I'm still going tomorrow, don't get me wrong. I don't have Sky so I say to hell with them :P I'd rather be there as watching it on TV just isn't the same for me (OK I left the last meeting well before time last Thursday but that was simply due to the delays and the temperature!) Bit of a catch 22 situation with Sky. It's a form of promotion, but at the same time there are downsides to having a meeting shown live on TV as without reduced admission, it puts many folk off going. I've never known Lynn to offer reduced admission when Sky have been in town and I think that's kinda poor personally. Sky did it themselves last year where you bought tickets online at a discount, but I don't know if that's continuing this year?

Imperative that everyone has their pecker up bloke 😊

Come On The Stars!!!!!****

After last week, I will most certainly watch this one at home.

Changing the subject slightly..... :o

Just looked at the weather forecast, no rain, but if 4 riders can navigate the track without getting blown into each other it will be a miracle. I was planning to go (s0d sky), but not sure a 120 mile round trip with some rather strong winds will be much fun. Jury is out at the moment.

On the subject of atmosphere, Buster really has to sort the Mic Man out (no pun intended :P ) .....he really doesn't add anything to the meeting, then maybe build on that a bit (start line lights and flames that Rory had are probably also a must)

Does Buster have anyone doing any form of marketing these days ? His Boy was very good at that, and as far as I am aware he has not been replaced at either the Speedway or the football. I understand the fan base at The Football has dropped off alarmingly. The other person that is proving to be a massive massive miss is of course Mike Bennett. That was always going to be a tough one to replace. The guy was a total pro and understood the Sport, and he had that certain way about him around the riders. Tough act to follow.

Buster doesn't "do" the internet as far as I am aware but Marc Gent does, dunno if presentation is his job as well ...... to be fair I thought Matt tried harder last week.

The fans must do their bit as well, standing on the terraces as quiet as dormice doesn't help the atmosphere either.

Last week was just so cold to do anything much so let's go from tomorrow ......... :o

Tell you who I think needs to get on the mic a bit more and that is Buster, he is respected by most fans and they want to hear what he has to say ..... he could inject enthusiasm into the club more than probably anyone else!

I agree Trees, to a point. Then again do you feel like a fan these days at Lynn or just a customer ? I am sure the fans would more than do there bit, but it is something that has to work both ways. Fans dont want to feel or be treated like customers, but I am afraid thats the way things feel at Saddlebow right now. Buster could do a lot more. For example last week was only a glorified freindly yet he charges top dollar for it. This week we have the meeting live on Sky yet no mention of reduced admission to try and encourage the Fans to attend.

Long gone are the days when all Speedway Promotions had to do was throw open the gates and wait for the fans to hand their cash over. Will Lessons be learnt before it tips itself over the edge ?

semion, the KLTFC supporters are notoriously fickle and will quickly stay way if things aren't going well. I gather they haven't won at the Walks for three months so it's little wonder crowds are currently below 500. The Linnets are certainly at a crossroads, money is going to have to be pumped in if they want to progress any further than the Evostick Premier.
