Glasgow Tigers V Edinburgh Monarchs Spring Trophy 1st Leg Sunday March 29th 2015 At 3pm

Recommended Posts

The track was rideable and for the determined few (our reserves) raceable, if you chose to go wide enough. At the start if you were behind, then you got filled in.

Just a pity that the races took so long to get started and a few more "you have 2 minutes" would have moved things along.

Pity Erik the "kinder" fell and popped the fence as this added to the delay, and we could have done without the track grading in my opinion. (just pulled mud back on to the drier racing line)

However quite why we didn`t start until 3-15 surprised those of us on the back straight who had adjusted watches forward........

Cookie clearly does not enjoy heavy tracks (remember the 4`s at leicester?) though he did show some ball5 in heat 5 between the 2 Tiggers, so it was rideable, especially with clear track in front.

tigs deserved their win so roll on Friday. Any chance Dickie lawson pulls a sickie???

"Monarchs co-promoter John Campbell today said: There were special circumstances that meant the match had to go ahead. But there wouldnt have been many league matches that would have taken place in such conditions. But Glasgow, for obvious reasons, wanted the match on. From today's EEN

As john Campbell says it wouldn't have went ahead if it was a normal meeting. A glasgow club official even told an edinbrugh fan that the meeting would have been off any other week but they decided to run it anyway.

Lets not consider riders safety as we need to show off our fancy new stadium.

Well done John Campbell, agree there were special circumstances, would've been a big blow for Scottish speedway if it was postponed

Also special thanks to all the riders for agreeing to race

Exactly.

The two Scottish teams need each other for the greater good, despite some on here doing their best to undermine it.

Greater good is fine but only up to a point.

And the $64,000 question is - where is that point?

Rider safety?

Crowd inconvenience?

PR?

Money?

PS

I don't know the answer!!

Despite the weather , which we have yet to conquer successfully , it was a joy being at Ashfield yesterday . The place is unrecognisable from what it used to be like and the Charlie Monk stand is amazing .

Yes the track was heavy and rain affected , but one or two riders stood out . Masters seems to have started the season impressively and he looks as if he is going to be a big hitter for the Monarchs this year . Max Clegg certainly wasn't afraid of the track and had a real go , but the young German needs a few rough edges smoothed off . God knows how he is going to get round Armadale on Friday .

For us , Morris and Lawson look the part and are going to be big scorers round Ashfield . Victor and young James showed enough to suggest they will be a useful reserve pairing .

Ok it rained and the track was difficult , but we've all now enjoyed our new facilities and the Monarchs have nit picked and moaned - speedway's back :drink:

So nice to see one of the Monarchs faithless "applauding" the Facenna Bothers on the Glasgow Tigers Fans Facebook group.

Only thing he could find wrong was the bar area - no seats for the elderly and no Lech beer.

Refreshing to see a more grounded opinion from a Monarch.

Well done that man ...... what chance of the same on BSF?

This is all full & well but were does it say that Glasgow Riders didn't want to ride as you stated on a previous post which mysteriously has been edited or are you just making that bit up (now there's a shocker) to deflect thing's from your captain moaning about the track.

Remember the hole you are digging is starting to get deeper or as a Philadelphia Lawyer would say please think carefully before you answer.

Serious question - how much of the spectating area is under cover?

(Not a trick question and no ulterior motive - just interested to know.)

At the minute Main Stand & Enclosure have new roof's on and some shelter partially on terrace at front off main stand all areas were packed though.

We could always get Border Roofing to do the rest of the stadium.

Then they could pass on some of our dosh to the Minions. ;)

Cook should spend less time whinging and moaning and more time trying to improve so he can actually score a point in Poland. Turning into the Bridger/Barker thinking hes far better than he is

Paid 7 in his first meeting for Gorzow would have been paid 10 if it wasn't for a silly mistake.

Granted he didd'nt score in the away leg. But then none of the team scored much

The greater good is a one way street, I've never heard or read that opinion from a Monarchs fan. For the last 2 winters we could have closed for good and I doubt very few in the east would have batted an eyelid. We have rightly not been on their radar as we have been uncompetitive for several seasons, however what has been abundantly clear during that time is that they do not need us.

The greater good only works when travelling fans reciprocate in the same large numbers and the home team on each occasion benefits from the gate money. Sunday hopefully has heralded a new dawn, an excellent travelling support who turned out on a rotten day. Glasgow look competitive this season, matches with the Monarchs look to be tasty and crowd pullers but rather than undermine the greater good ideology, the hard evidence will be in 3 weeks at Ashfield when we see if it actually is shared amongst the fans of both clubs.
