The Heathens V The Brummies 25/03

Recommended Posts

Hats off to the Brummies and hands up I admit I got this one very wrong.

I still think its a big ask for Ellis & Perry to score like that every week & when the off nights occur they may be in trouble however if Chapman & Kirby can keep the middle order points ticking over it will help.

For the Heathens I don't think Grieves will have many 5 point nights but on the flip side Perks wont get 16 every week so that probably balanced out. Not sure how early Harris got injured but he is capable of more than 1 or 2 at this level however I thought Moggo would be scoring a little higher than he has so far.....

Overall I still think the two teams will be opposite ends of the table but a much needed confidence boost for Brum.

There really isn't the need for supporters to keep sniping at each other on this forum. Several people from both Birmingham and Cradley Heath have worked exceptionally hard to try to make this ground share operation work so the very least we can do as supporters, is give our full backing to it.

Let's remember that this plan needs both of our clubs to be successful - if one of them fails then the other one couldn't survive on their own.

So why try to sully the memory of a terrific meeting last night, by trying to score silly points off each other?

Wouldn't say Birmingham were lucky, personally. They seemed sharper from the starts which was a big difference to last week.

Adam Ellis rode as he will likely do for the majority of the matches this season (half a straight in front!)

Enjoyed the meeting, if not the ending - is this how it felt for other teams in the 90's where we would throw Hancock and Hamill in Heat 13 and 15 (and a double tac-sub in 14 if needed) and come back from many points down to win with successive 5-1's?

Still, you can't beat a last heat decider once in a while

Heat 12 was a cracker, Chapman had to keep his line bang on to stay in front of Perks and to a lesser degree Williamson but didn't put a wheel wrong

Track was dusty at first but with rain forecast you can understand why, there was certainly plenty of work put in (and water put on!) once it was known the rain was a few hours away

Hope Luke Harris and Adam Kirby are OK after their knocks

Must say i'm very impressed with the majority of the Cradley fans comments on here most of them are level headed and constructive and i really hope the quality of posts remain the same.

I really expected to be beaten again last night but was pleasantly suprised and it gives us some hope.

The Cradley fans near us were gracious in defeat--not a trait i remember from the 70s and 80s not that they were beaten often lol

Say what you like about Porky i think he did a good job last night and emphasised how lucky we all are to have both of our teams running and we should get behind them both so kudos there i think.

So i hope the entente cordiale between our clubs continues on here. :t:

Super meeting last night, although we lost it in a somewhat unexpected manner. I would not have known which way to call heats 13 and 15 before the meeting but I'd not have called one side or the other to record two 5-1's. That and the terrific effort by Chapman in heat 12 was all that edged for the Brummies. As touched on by a couple of others the success of this venture depends on both clubs and in that regard I'll happily take this defeat on the chin as I think it's an absolutely vital result for Birmingham Speedway, particularly after the result previously. It's so very important to prove to the fans that this league provides good quality racing, value for money and the team has to be seen to have a degree of success too. A string of early season defeats would be a disaster.

Kirby and Chapman have impressed me so far for the Brummies. It will be interesting, and very important to the team, to see if they can continue and even build on their solid start to the season. At the bottom end there was an obvious sign of slight improvement too. Ellis and Perry should be able to bang in these big scores pretty much every week so there's no cause for concern at the top end, all things being equal.

A bit of a blip for the Heathens lads with several scoring below what most NL fans would expect to see. But no harm done in the grand scheme of things. It will, I hope, serve to focus the mind and make the lads realise that the hype about the club always building a team that only has to turn up is a nonsense. Yes, we have been fortunate to have strong teams for three years running but the lads have to do it on track week-in and week-out and that means 100% every race and you simple cannot afford to be below your best otherwise you will be beaten!!

This season promises to be the most evenly matched since 2010 when we saw three teams finish level at the top and I can't wait to see other clubs/riders results and start to get some feel for how things may pan out.

First person to say Perry BARR in 3 days...

For Porky's benefit, if he wants to go to Perry Wood, then Perrywood Road is in Great Barr, just around the corner from Marco's chippy on way to the M6...it'll lead him straight there, perhaps.

Im a Heathen fan and wish we would stop with the Wood everywhere we are tennants! Its Perry Barr and Monmore Green and we should respect that and not have this ill feeling like we own the place and were taking over! I also hope that if we ever get our own statdium we dont end up giving it the Dudley Wood name, the club seems to forgot that there was 20 odd years where nothing happened and always looking back may hinder us looking forward. Things like wanting the same as it was before and a stadium in the dudley borough and having the track exactly the same! Im 24 never went to Dudley wood but Heathens and majoirty of speedway fans have to link everything back to the past when they all say 'The Gud Ol' Days' but for some it simply the case that these last 5 seasons are all that they know!

We should be respectful to our current and past home and treat it as it is...a rented property which we cannot decorate with our own colours and history! A little rant sorry!

As for Wednesday, Brummies deserved to win, they were better than us simple as. The term lucky which has been banded about on twitter is completly untrue and a pathetic response from a set of fans and a team that is not used to loosing!

I came away from PERRY BARR disapointed, I didnt like loosing and it made me realise how things could have been over the last 2 years when we have had so much sucsess. I was brought back down to earth with a bump as it all looked to easy again last week but as I always say, this NL is great fun and qaulity and I dont want to move up a league for a while yet! Im watching the World Champs of the future I belive and watching them develop and entertain us like Wednesday night for £11 or £120 a year is right bang for your buck!

Well done Brummies and Heathens...but most of all the National League whos AGM might just have saved speedway in a few towns and citys this year!

... if we want to split hairs its The Alexandra Stadium.

It USED to be...I don't have that many hairs left to split any more, however, just to confirm that the name "Alexander Stadium" moved over to the new athletics stadium in Perry Park, home of the Birchfield Harriers and many an international athletics championships when it got built.

The official title now of the greyhound / speedway facility is "Perry Barr Stadium" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perry_Barr_Stadium

Just a shame that the little suburb of Perry Barr has two stadiums now, it had another one until it made way for the One Shop Stopping Centre, and it has Villa Park so close, with the Hawthorns and the Bescot Stadium short drives away, and yet the Metropolitan Borough of Dudley won't do a thing for sport of any kind. I do hope that changes and that Cradley can have a place they can call home before too long.

UK Martin, Dudley MBC will never do anything to help Cradley Heath Speedway in my lifetime, the best opportunity to do so, was when Barratts first purchased Dudley Wood Stadium, there was and is directly behind DW Stadium waste ground, then adjacent to that is a Sports facility, 2 Grassed football pitches, a hardcore Basketball Area with floodlights, Changing rooms and Car Park. The opportunity was there to do a land swap which the Council was NEVER interested in, the houses could have been built either where the waste ground is, or the land where the Sports facility is. This would have given Barratts their houses, would have retained Cradley Heath Speedway, or/and given The Council enough land to build a modern facility for use by all.

The Council never made any attempt to do this, and to this day the waste ground behind Dudley Wood Stadium remains unused.

It's a democracy...vote them out! Get the supporters club members to picket the polling stations on election days, and put your case to the electors. Find out who's for and who's against and make it clear to the voters that if they want speedway, which candiates are in favour and who are against.
