The Heathens V The Brummies 25/03

Recommended Posts

Well done the Brummies, so who were the guys that were saying Cradley will walk the league and Brum will finish 7th or 8th ? its not going to happen, this proves the League will be a lot closer this year, Okay some may say it was over after last week, but believe me, there is NO way Cradley riders didnt want to win that last heat local bragging rights were at stake, pride was at stake and us Cradley fans are NOT used to losing especially at home. This will do wonders for Birmingham speedway, it wont hurt Cradley either a diet of 60 plus scores was becoming boring, bring on the next meeting between the two sides.

Was it a decent crowd?

I wasnt there but according to someone on updates they said it was a big crowd, remember this was Cradleys home meeting so that alone would ensure a decent crowd.

i do hope that Brum are far better this week, they won't win but its national league.Improve every week, thats what its all about.

Massive just like last week.

What a win, what a performance and what superb racing towards the end.

If this is what NL is about then I am so looking forward to this season.

What is "massive" in present speedway attendances?

Here's the scorers from the latest match - thanks to SGB website:

TRAVEL PLUS TOURS CHALLENGE 2nd leg

CRADLEY 44: Ellis Perks 16, Max Clegg 9+1, Matt Williamson 7+2, Nathan Greaves 5, Michael Neale 3+2, Arron Mogridge 3, Luke Harris 1.

BIRMINGHAM 46: Adam Ellis 14+1, Tom Perry 12+1, Sam Chapman 7, Zach Wajtknecht 6+1, Adam Kirby 4, Ales Wilson 2+1, Harvie Banks 1+1.

Cradley win 107-73 on aggregate

You really have to take your hat off to both sets of riders tonight, you would think the National League title was on this meeting after the commitment both sides gave. The trophy lets be honest was more or less won after first leg and its an early season challenge match so fair play to them for the entertainment they provided us.

Ellis different quality to last week, as expected winning heats with ease. Perry as ever with him he entertains and showed he could easily be a good number 1 for most NL teams. Chapman's ride in Heat 12 is what won us the match imo, absolutley brilliant to hold off Williamson and Perks on the line as he did. Impressed with Chapman, think 5.45 is a steal for the talent he has. Kirby very good, on the pace in all his rides and gave 110% especially going to the first bends, hope hes okay after his tumble.

As for the new lads, Zach made a positive impression tonight. Even though he made that great gate in Heat 2 and won the heat, I notice he doesnt always get the gate but he always looks on the pace to challenge. He defo showed signs he can make an impact as the weeks go by especially from reserve. I'm sure Alex Wilson will too, 2 paid 3 and I belive theres alot more to come from him. The one thing i will say about Harvie is gating isnt an issue but wasnt on the pace at all. Lets remember he is new to speedway and its his second meeting.

Many of the Heathens didnt have as good nights, hope Harris is okay with his ankle injury. I would like to say what a talent Ellis Perks is, just turned 18 and I dont think it will be long before he is Heathens number 1. Will be interesting to see how he fares in the PL with Scunny this year. Its good to see a young british rider coming through with the talent he has, future looking good.

Not as good As they think they are, or as some of us think they are, I have publically said even after last week that The Brummies are Top three material barring injuries, It was almost impossible for The Heathens to improve on last week, and barely believable that Adam Ellis the Leagues Top rider would have another poor night, added to that the Brummie riders ALL put up improved showings maybe only by a point or two,but that was enough to turn a 30+ point deficit around, 26 points from your Top Two, 13 from two middle order riders, that only needed 7 from your lower end which they got admireably, Harvie Banks may only have scored 1 point, but without that point Birmingham wouldnt have won, well done to all the riders.

Porky is what he is, he is the Cradley Centre Green announcer, most of us Heathens love him, lots of away fans hate him, on nights when it is a 60 point procession he keeps the boredom away, yes he sometimes takes the Mick out of away fans, but he is a sound guy, he knows his Speedway, is quick witted, and can take the Mick out of himself, i wouldnt change him for anyone, he always without fail thanks the away fans for coming at the end of a meeting, as for being called a Clown he would be happy to know he is that funny..

Ste about 35 points better over 2 leagues we are. We know league will be close this year. 6 of our riders had a bad night and still only lost by 2. Better if league is close anyway. We will all see at the end of season I suppose.

Response from a typically myopic Cradley fan :icon_smile_clown:

As I said last week I was sure that Brummies will improve as the season goes on.

Good thing for the NL is it shows that teams can compete with Cradley and it should be a interesting and competative League.
