The Mauger family are issuing this statement detailing the situation and will be making no further comment. Ivan, who won six speedway titles between 1968 and 1979, and long track crowns in 1971, 1972 and 1976, announced his retirement from public life two years ago. He is receiving daily treatment at a Gold Coast nursing home, but still manages to enjoy time with wife Raye, their three children, Julie, Kym and Debbie, and longstanding friends and associates from within motorcycling and the wider community. Meanwhile, collectors are warned to be wary of items of Ivan's equipment and memorabilia being offered for sale. “It has come to our notice that some unauthorised and unscrupulous people have been making false representations so please take every care to ensure any such offers are genuine and being made by authentic sellers,” said Raye. It comes as a shock sometimes to recognise they may be old and frail. SCB Posted March 23, 2015 Report Share Posted March 23, 2015 This must be horrible for anyone but for someone like Ivan who was always so logical and methodical in his approach to everything and always come across as artiulate and well spoke, so suddenly not be able to these things must be so frustrating. weatherwatcher Posted March 23, 2015 Report Share Posted March 23, 2015 Anyone who try's to make a fast buck, by selling an item of Ivan's that is not a genuine item, needs to be stood up in front of a firing squad. It is bad enough that Ivan is now coming to the end of his life with this horrible condition, it must be so hard for his family. I am sure that he will go down as one of the greatest speedway riders that we saw in his day and I hope that he manages to stay with us for a number of years yet. Best wishes to him but most of all to his familt, through these trying times, it is horrible to be there and have to go through it. Just asking So sad for someone who was a genius not so sure it matters. even if it is a third party it doesn't mean it's not from the heart. there's something in my head that i've heard only a few years ago that he came third in a poll to find new zealands greatest ever qiwi so he's still a hero down there. Certainly amongsthe the greatest motorcyclists/motorsports participants he'did be top three, but not all news (or even no sportspeople).
