Birmingham Vs Cradley (ch) 18th March 2015

Recommended Posts

The Brummies have no previous NL experiance and the Heathens as many say 'Have the pick of the bunch' when it comes down to team building.

Clegg is a class act, I have said since he rocked up with Greaves two year ago that these two lads have what it takes. Both now have reserve spots in the PL and its a huge testiment to what Cradley have done for these kids. And the belt keeps supplying riders, Williamson is another one who is now in his second season after starting from reserve and looks to be pushing a heat leader spot.

I think the Brummies have a good chance this year but they had three riders who were new to the sport last night and a number 1 who struggled to ride Perry Barr for the first time and Perry Barr is difficult to ride as its a very tight track!

Once again Heathens fans are estatic with the result but left wondering how long can this continue. Next week I hope is closer and the 8th of April may give us a firmer test when Coventry roll into Perry Wood (Sorry).

Tom Perry was nearly caught of 15m from Clegg which is suprising as Perry as a Heathens asset has shone for the Green and White (And now red???)

Hunty, I like to read your posts especially as a fellow Heathen fan, but in what way do we have the pick of the bunch ? Mildenhall and Kent should be able to compete with us financially, in fact Kent dont have rent to pay, so should be able to sign whoever they want. Brum had 2 new NL riders in Zach and Wilson, Banks has as much NL experience as does our own Luke Harris, Adam Ellis has ridden at Perry Barr before so it isnt new to him, and as for Perry Barr being a tight track thats simply not true, and many describe Perry Barr as having little or no home Track advantage, next week should be closer, but as for Coventry giving us a sterner test i very much doubt it.

Tom Perry has often shone for the Heathens in the past, but Tom has gone back a little, and these young Kids, Clegg & Greaves are still progressing, but Tom will still get regular double figures at Perry Barr, and they wont have to meet an on fire Cradley every week which should help.

G Drury must have seen this coming, My thanks to Phil Morris for putting the team together as I have lost touch with the NL, Looks like Morris might have as we'll, With all the hard work that's been done to get the Brummies back on track they maybe have to make a change rather quick as the whole set up has PL at least about it and not a struggling NL side, Early days I know but..........

Birmingham need time as do the riders however a strong advert for the MDL yet again.

Neale, Harris & Perks all rode speedway regularly last year whereas only Wilson could claim the same for the Brummie new boys.

I still think there are some much tougher tests to come for Cradley namely in the forms of Kent, Eastbourne & Stoke after those encounters perhaps the judging can begin but I wouldn't expect that many 60+ scores this season.....

My post was writen a little quickly on my phone so a bit of it is a bit out but Ellis has rode Perry Bazrr before but I ment as its not his home track as of yet it was his first outing.

In regards to 'Pick of the bunch' comment I was being a bit tounge in cheek as thats the way many outsiders to the NL see the Heathens. They see that we attract or cherry pick the best which is could be said as true but is not always the case.

I watched the Brummies a few times when work comitments meant I couldnt get to the Heathens so I got my speedway fix watching it at Perry Barr with EL, It is a tight track in my eyes and I do belive your right in that there is no home advatange because the amount of time i watchs the Brummies get thumped at home was quite resounding that year.

And as for Coventry in a fortnight, I didnt know Sarj wasnt riding for them and when you look at the team it not actualy as strong as I thought!

As it's a challenge meeting, everyone needs the practice............even the referee! Check out the Official Referee Scorecard. http://www.speedwaygb.co/15results/birmingham_18.03.15_res.pdf

Spot the mistake? Ht 12 Max Clegg disq.......................................... it was ht 11. He did not ride in 12. Oops

Not connected with either side, nor was I at the meeting last night. But come on, some people are jumping the gun. Its like a pre-season friendly in football, you really can't read anything into it. Brummies have got 3 riders who have near enough no experience of racing in such a meeting, with a large crowd and a new track to deal with. Lets have abit of realism from some and let the youngsters find their feet!

The Heathens really did hit the ground running last night. I did expect to win but by no means anything like that margin of victory. Harris was the only one not flying out the starts for us and with the Brummies needing a little time to find their feet the scoreline was very one sided. However, there was plenty of good racing mixed in too. Perry, Chapman and Wajknecht particularly were all involved in some good battles. Superb display by the Heathens, as I said, but I want to comment on the Brummies given one or two negative posts already.

Riders at this level need time to settle. You can't judge them on an opening night debut and start moaning already. Winning is great but it's not just about that. Stick with it and you'll go on a journey with these lads as some of them develop from newbies at reserve to solid 2nd strings and then hopefully impressive heat leaders. It's so much better than any other level in this regard.

There were plenty of positives to take from last night for your club. Ellis will be a class act at this level. He just had an absolute nightmare last night. It happens, even at GP level.

Kirby was riding steadily and was solid at number 2. He scored in every ride and outscored his opposite number.

Banks will most likely drop to reserve and find points easier to come by there, but on the plus side even last night he showed improvement by his last ride. He made a much better start and was in the mix when his engine let go.

Chapman had a good night and was probably the best home rider from the start all night. He was involved in a couple of good races and although edged out he scored well overall and will have easier nights than against a rampant Heathens.

Perry stood out with, as we know all too well, his all action style out wide. He wasn't as fast as Clegg but was arguably the best of the rest on show as he made ground and a couple of good passes. One thing is guaranteed with Perry and that's you will get your value for money. He never knows when he's beaten and he'll entertain you.

I thought Wajknecht rode well and was on the pace all night. He couldn't get out the traps as quick as the Heathens though so he spent most of races chasing hard. He was getting in to challenging positions and didn't seem afraid to have a go. For me, he's the Brummie you'll see develop the most as the season progresses. He really could prove one to watch.

And finally Wilson. He looked as though he was unlikely to score in his first two but then made a good start in heat 8 and rode steadily to an untroubled second place. There's improvement for you straight away.

Give the lads and the league a chance. You will, in my opinion, grow to love it!!

That's the first time I've heard or seen Perry Barr described as tight.. I thought it was specifically designed not to be, hence Ivan Mauger took a copy of the plans away with him on the opening night!

Excellent post and echoes my sentiments exactly :t:

Wow didn't expect that score. Good to see so many rookies starting NL matches but lets hope one team isn't going to dominate the league yet again.

They won't there will be some tests for the Heathens some of which I hope they fail
