CUFC_Brummie
Looking forward to being back tonight, know next to nothing about National League speedway beyond what I saw from the reserves in the EL last season so intrigued to see what it's like. Hopefully a well run meeting with a good crowd and some entertaining racing to get this third rebirth off to a good start. I need something positive to look forward to considering the shambles my football team is at the moment.

markyb
Just checked out the score from this evening and to be quite honest, provides nothing to make ANY fan enthusiastic about wasting their time (forget the money aspect !) in going along to a national league meeting. Over the close season have read so many team announcements about the signing of 'x' or 'y' who have signed, but then when you look into their individual profile, have only recently taken up the sport. Over the last 2 years have attended most of the Coventry Storm meetings at Brandon. Think for 2015 I will use the 10 quid or so admission price to buy some paint from B&Q, just 1 mile from Brandon, and watch it dry instead. Well done to the GB speedway authorities ! IMO you have made what was a viable, and entertaining spectacle potentially pathetic.

While I will agree that the reduced points limit did weaken the product , it's important to realise what the league is about. It's about young riders being given a chance , riders such as Clegg getting extra meetings, and in fairness if you didn't even go it's hard for you to say what the entertainment value was. Markyb, Profiles saying they have only recently taken up the Sport ?? surely that is what the NL is all about! or am i missing something?.Two seasons ago Max Clegg and Nathan Greaves were Cradleys reserves now they are senior Heat Leaders, okay the result tonight looked one sided by the scoreline, but its a Challenge meeting, basically to prepare for the League meetings to come, thats why both Teams gave there riders there full programmed rides, The biggest factor in the scores was Adam Ellis only scoring 3 points from his 4 rides, i doubt Adam will have a score like that again at Perry Barr all season, most of the other riders except for Zach scored what was expected. So I deduce you are not a NL fan, but by the end of the season there will be new heros, new future world champions, future riders for Poole to poach, stay with it dear fellow it will be worth it

Brummie Kev
Great to see Speedway back tonight and also really encoraging to see the place packed to the rafters. I can only think of the Ben Fund of a time when more people were in the stadium, must have been a few thousand. Just a real shame there wasnt a close contest and the tie is moe or less decided. Im not disapointed with the Brummies, at the end of the day its the first meeting of the season. We have three riders that not only have never rode at Perry Barr in a meeting before but are completley new to the sport. Its gonna take them time to adapt to the track and this level of racing. Every rider can have an off night and thats what Adam Ellis had tonight, how many times this season will we see him scoring 3 points in a Nl meeting. Hes a proven class act at this level. The best rider on show for us was obviously Tom Perry, full of effort and excitement which is what you always see with Tom. Chapman did okay, think he will have a good year and he mixed it at times. A decent showing from Kirby, 4 paid 6 in main body from a 3pter is job done. So thats 3 positives to take from tonight. The Heathens were outstanding and you would think after this thiey will take some stopping in the National League this year. Its just a great side, Clegg and Greaves are a strong top 2, Williamson was brilliant tonight and they have the sensation that is Ellis Perks at reserve. Clegg was a mile the best rider on show tonight, but the Heathens were solid throughout. Edited March 18, 2015 by Brummie Kev
Ben91
While one meeting doesn't make a season this result shows just how much the Brummies are going to rely on Ellis (and Perry). Great to hear that a big crowd attended last night, let's hope they all return best week for the second leg and continue to do so throughout the season. One of the best things about watching Speedway at this level is watching a rider develop from being a 'wobbler' into a solid NL rider and then hopefully further on from that. I hope the Brummies fans will appreciate that as come the end of the season they'll be looking at completely different riders to the ones that rode last night in a few cases.
greyhoundp
Whilst i am happy that we won, in some ways Im dissapointed it was by such a large margin, I want the Brummies to survive and getting beat by so many wont have done them any favours in front of a big crowd.

CUFC_Brummie
It is difficult not to be negative after last night to be honest, the racing was one sided, dire, and stretched out for the most part, and to be honest considering it takes me an hour and half to get there and back it didn't particularly leave me wanting to go back for more, I will, because I support the team and I'm aware of what the National League is and the challenges that a lot of the riders face, but I think any first timers would think twice again despite the big (but very subdued) crowd turning up. There will, obviously, be a noticeable drop off in crowds for our home meetings going forward (including myself as I can't make every meeting), hopefully it will be enough to keep balancing the books though. Tom Perry by far our best rider, Chapman scored about what you'd expect him to, and I thought Zach (still learning the surname...) was by far the most promising of our rookies, on the pace and looked like he was willing to have a go but there wasn't a lot of dirt on the outside when he tried to make a move there, holding out high hopes for him as the season progresses. The rest all need some work, Harvie Banks in particular, read he'd blown a couple of engines pre-season but he just seemed to completely come off the throttle after the second bend of lap 1 every time. Can forgive a newbie finishing last consistently on his debut, especially in the main body of the team, but he wasn't even close, don't think he'd have scored at reserve either. Cradley were very impressive, Clegg a class apart and Perks looks absolutely top drawer. Again with my limited NL knowledge it's hard to properly judge but I find it hard to imagine anyone else being able to match them over the course of the season, which I don't think would be a massive surprise from the sounds of it. Good to be back but first impressions not great, let's hope the only way is up from here.
Sings4Speedway
Sadly much as I expected but you can't read too much into this re the league as imo this was a near top vs near bottom contest. I expected Harris to score a few more and Neale to score a few less so evened out and if Neale can carry that form on and fast gating Cradley will have very potent reserves whoever occupies those positions. Apart from Ellis Brum were where I expected, Zach, Alex & Harvey all need time to settle in but could be a painful season if you follow Yellow & Red..... Mike.Butler
hard to tell after this one meeting I know but if Cradley walk the league again where the hell do they go from there?
Sings4Speedway
I personally don't think that Cradley will walk the league but they are certainly going to be there or thereabouts and may win by a lesser margin. As said many times last season Cradley have the same points limit as everyone else and the riders could have been signed by any club. Midweek tracks are not desirable for many but a central catchment area must be an advantage (its less likely that northern riders would sign for Kent / Eastbourne etc). Other than that its just down to money. If Cradley pay more per point than other teams they are more likely to get first pick on riders, a pay cap wont work as bonuses / additional sponsorships would just be used. I guess we should see how the season progresses but its down to the other clubs to try and close the gap however they see fit.
Paul
Hard to judge on one meeting but Cradley certainly look to have a powerful 7. What kinda makes me worry about this league is the likes of Buxton, Rye House, Eastbourne that are bringing in young untried riders. Harvie Banks has a great pedigree, but is really untried at NL level. What we will end up with is a NL that is split into the clubs that have good backing, ie £ notes and those that don't. Of course it's early days thus far, Birmingham will improve as the season gets going. But it must be worrying for the Brum promotion that they've been wolloped at home by such a big score line. Let's hope the Birmingham fans stick by their club after a bad day at the office. From a personal point of veiw my club Hackney folded mid season in 1991. As the Brummies fans know it's horrible when your club closes and I'd give anything to have the Brummies 1-7 riding at The Wick each week. Good luck Birmingham, things will only get better
