Best Pairs Cup

Recommended Posts

I'm sure Scott doesn't want to ride for team GB in the World Cup so maybe the same principle applies for this as well.

Anyway at least GB are in the pairs eventually. Hope cookie does well and mixes it with the big boys.

This. You cannot expect to tell Team GB to stick their place and then expect to ride for Team GB in the pairs!

Is that what happened?

Did he expect to ride?

It ain't Team GB. This is just an open meeting organised by a TV company. The organisers wanted, and sent invitations, to Tai and Scott.

Nothing to do with Rosco, and if BSPA wanted to stop the riders involvement altogether they could do, by refusing start permission. Except they have only refused Scott permission, and stuck Craig Cook in.

It isn't a "World Pairs", it isn't an FIM event. It is an open meeting. What would happen if a British track were having a big(gish) meeting and asked Chris Holder to ride, and he wanted to ride and was accepted -- only to have Mark Lemon refusing him the OK to ride, and offering, for instance, Kozza Smith instead?

It's not. Team GB have been invited. As soon as you use the Team GB name you need the ACU/SCB permission - it's why when Newport used to have GB vs Oz meeting they were actually just "Lion vs Kangaroo" to get around the issue. As soon as you use the countries name the countries authorities get involved - as mad as it sounds.

Clearly it's the case or the SCB/ACU wouldn't be able to do anything about it would they? And you're saying they have.

Well Jason Doyle had to decline the last round due to a Leicester meeting and Dakota North was 'offered' with Rohan Tungate as reserve!

It's not mad at all. It's perfectly reasonable to ensure that meetings billed as between representative international teams are officially sanctioned, and not just random selections of a meeting promoter.

The ACU/SCB sanctioning rules obviously apply to meetings held in Britain, but it may be different in other countries (although I'd imagine their federations have similar rules). However, whilst these Best Pairs may not be an official European Championship, they're undoubtedly inscribed by FIM Europe and I'd guess have received permission to use national names.

Test matches are after all bi-lateral private arrangements between federations and/or promoters' associations, but are normally considered to involve official representative teams even when they've often been who can be persuaded to turn up.

Going by the Edinburgh press report they mentioned about how Craig cook was riding in the pairs but then went on to say he doesn't yet know who his partner is. Has tai pulled out of the event then?

That's strange. Would be very surprised if Tai wasn't in it as he had been asking to take part in it for a while now.

Does anybody have any idea when the full line up for this meeting will be announced as its only a couple of days away?
