League Top Three

Well i doubt you will see the super tuned engines in the Nl, then for the most part you wont see the sponsored Vans, you wont see riders turn up for just another pay night, without putting in the associated effort, you wont see most of the riders packed up and away without chatting to fans, you wont see riders doing wheelies at the back, and granted you wont see Elite riders skills.

What you will see is, young guys giving 100%+ mostly on limited budgets, you will see some young riders having to be back at school the next day having to ride home through the night, you will see some in old clapped out vans, you wont see riders giving up without trying, you will see occasionally riders falling on every lap but still get up and give it a go for an odd point or sometimes less, you will see riders Happy to stay behind for a chat (some are to young to drink), and above all else you will see young British riders proud to wear your Teams colours. Not all of them will make the grade, but i can assure you it wont be for the want of trying, and in time you will learn to ride every race with them, and suffer every fall as they make a mistake or try to hard, but you will have your OWN Team and your OWN riders just like it used to be years ago.

No its not GP racing or EL racing, but in its way its just as enjoyable and in lots of ways even more so, to see a young rider start out as a 3 point reserve in the NL then in 2 or 3 years that same rider is racing in the PL and EL as a draft rider.

I struggle to understand why people fancy Birmingham to win this league,

I tend to look at numbers and with the League set up on a 36 GSA point level but with 42 points available on average, it means that given equality all teams would improve by 6 points. They will not of course all finish equal so to reach the top four probably requires an improvement of 7 to 8 points and to win the league 8 to 9.

Looking at Birmingham I think they are too top heavy with their 2 heat leaders. They are probably going to partner each other at least twice in each meeting so must drop a couple of points between them as Bonus Points have no bearing on GSA or team score. This would mean that they can only average 11 each even if they beat everyone else every time. Extra rides could ease that average up a little but is likely to result in another ride together and could be more deleterious than advantageous.

Given that they are sure to have their share of motor failures, mishaps and bad gates, it is dubious whether they can put more than a point on their combined average. This should put too great a strain on what looks like a long and weak tail. If one of the top two goes off the boil or has an injury they could be in trouble.

A good and well reasoned post. On paper it does appear top heavy but there is lots of scope for improvement in the Brummies team. In 2012 Roynon averaged over 11½ so a top heat leader at this level who has good equipment and doesn't throw points down the road with silly disclusions can achieve that type of Über-high average. Adam Ellis falls in to a similar category, though I'd not put pressure on the lad by saying he should average 11½+. In the same year Tom Perry was 2nd only to Roynon in the league averages, with just under 10. Baring in mind the number of times he finished behind Roynon (or A.N. Other) one should consider that his record against opposition riders was very good indeed. That season he averaged more than the like of Garrity, Birks, Heeps, Wright, Worrall, Kerr, Starke, Nielsen, Jacobs etc. All may have gone on to ride at a higher level in the last couple of seasons but it proves Perry has the ability against very strong riders at this level. The league in 2015 will be a very pale shadow of itself in terms of this quality of top heat leaders in 2015. Perry Barr will suit Perry down to the ground, and especially so if there's dirt on the old Dickie Sweets line around the boards. I expect Perry to continue return to form in 2015 and be very strong.

Wajknecht should take to our league racing like a duck to water and the smart money is on him taking 7 rides for the first few meetings as he should start at reserve. That will keep the Brummies ticking over while the other new boys find their feet. Typically many who switch disciplines tend to be good gaters and PB is a nice sensible size and shape so it shouldn't be too taxing on man or machine. Give them some time to settle and I think the Brummies lower order will be doing enough.

I can't see any undue concerns about the back up although with so many new faces in the league this year I'm not the only one who could be eating my words in a few months time.

I completely agree on this one. I really don't see the Birmingham hype. I look at the team and see two heat leaders who could up and go at any point if the right PL offer comes along and one who is doubling up questionably.

If we start to look at what could go wrong for clubs I can make a case for them all failing to win the league!!

I can understand people saying we lack strength in depth bearing in mind Zach, Alex and Harvie are new to league but why don't you give them a chance. Its a bit harsh in my opinion to make a judgment on them before a wheel has been turned.

It's just what we (fans) do. Nobody has had a pop at anybody before a wheel is turned. We're just thinking it through from the little we know about many and taking a punt on who may finish where. If, in a week's time, people slate anybody for a poor show then shame on them. That's the time to scream give them a chance. :t:

Surprised to see not many people fancy Stoke. Two strong heatleaders, experienced reserves and one of the best engine rooms in the division on paper.

Stoke are very similar, in my opinion, to Coventry. They've steered clear of the high risk:reward strategy and gone for riders that have at least some experience of riding our NL. It's just that something always seems to go breasts vertical for Stoke, but it could easily be Stoke who put it all together and have a strong season.

I started welling up reading that; brings a lump to your throat. :D

when you see a young lad ride 3 great laps & then throw it into the air fence without any pressure, you may wonder what was he doing. He was trying to entertain you instead of using his head & keeping what he had got. This will be seen at all tracks this season but, the ones who learn from it will maybe riding for the team who wins the league.enjoy.

He looked very good at the P&P day.

POINT: he probably wasn't racing anyone!! There's a difference

My top 3, in order of how I think they'll finish

1 Cradley, can see them blowing away most teams at home again, and maybe only dropping a few away points

2 Mildenhall, look quite strong at 1-5, and think they will have a great year, wish Kent had kept hold of Connor Coles

3 hardest to predict for me, one of Kent, Eastbourne or Stoke, all could win against the top teams at home, away points are priceless to get amongst the top 3, would love it to be Kent, but think it will probably be Eastbourne

Cradley will win the league but after that is anyone's guess tbh.Very even looking teams with some young riders coming through. Will be interesting to see how they all get on.

From a Mildenhall point of view I think we've a solid line up.Looking forward to seeing Coles and Mountain progress.Hopefully Coles can hit the ground running and give himself some confidence.

Kingston is probably the fastest person I've seen around Mildenhall. If he has learnt the throttle goes the other way he is an absolute bargain on a sub 5.Will add at least 2/3 points to that.Especially in a watered down league.

Haven't seen anything of Bacon and Ruddick other than p&p but you can't really judge them on that.

Looking forward to another year following the lads.Whatever happens it's going to be a decent year

Mildenhall will be strong. Halsey will be as dominant a number 1 for you as others have. Coles, Mountain and Kingston will likely make a mockery of their start average, putting 1 - 3 points on each. As long as one or other reserve is scoring respectably, at least, then the pussycats will be up there.

I think Mildenhall line up in a very similar way to Kent, Rye House & Stoke.

Each has a potent number 1 with good support from 3,4 & 5 so any riders upping their averages will be crucial and Mildenhall are in a strong position for that.

IMO I think Stoke have the edge with a stronger number 2 and Tedham at reserve would have been riding for the last few seasons barring the stupid over 30's rule.

Mildenhall are next in the pack for me with marginally more experienced reserves and it only takes one of these to settle quickly and a serious charge could take place.

Kent & Rye are almost identical. Inexperienced reserves at any level of racing and number 2's who have league experience but need to kick on.

Either way I think it will be a very close season but im going to stick with my gut feeling of

Cradley, Stoke, Eastbourne in that order.
