Guest compost
Hi, Looking at the files on the Speedway Researcher website it would appear that the Wolves v Poole Provincial League match wasn't run in 1964. However, a final league table published in another volume shows all League matches for this season to have been completed. Wolves (at home) met Poole twice during this season - once, on the 3rd April (a 26-52 home defeat) is listed on SR as a challenge. The other meeting was on the 3rd July (when Wolves won 45-33) and is listed as being a Southern League match. The Southern League was an early season opener competition. Can anyone confirm for me (maybe from the Speedway Star) whether the meeting on the 3rd July was in fact a League match (or did it count for League and Southern League) please ? Was the meeting on the 3rd April the Southern League match ? Many thanks
norbold
Peter Morrish's book, British Speedway Leagues 1946 - 1964, has the 45-33 result listed as a Provincial League match. P.S. That's not to say it wasn't counted as an SL match as well. I don't know about that. Edited February 24, 2015 by norbold
