According to "Homes of British Speedway" it ran the sport from 1928-1937.Track length 396 yards. The first ever meeting was on Boxing day when Champ Upham won the Cardiff City Trophy in front of a 25,000 crowd. In 1929 it seems an amazing 55 meetings were held!!!!But things went rapidly downhill and it wasn't a success

In the early years, some tracks ran twice a week so this number was not unusual back then.

Of course. And the "season" was as long as they wanted really. After the opening meeting on Boxing day 1928,the first meeting of 1929 was at the start of January. It was boom time and the promoters were out to milk the cow for as much as they could get.Trouble was really they gave too much too soon and the bubble soon burst and crowds dropped. Then they came up with the novelty of team meetings to try and stop the rot

Some dates of meetings and results from Cardiff taken from Barry Stephenson's spreadsheets. I'm not sure how complete the list of meetings is but I do note the result of the 27/04/29 meeting isn't known so if the programme is filled in please reveal all!

Speedway Researcher has the results of one meeting in 1937. Unfortunately the date is only given as Saturday 24th which could be April or July. The spreadsheets show scratch races being held on the July date but no results. Researcher shows a match between The Provinces and Hackney Wick, followed by scratch races. I think it's the same meeting but have still to confirm that.

And if the camera looked straight down, it would show you the land the later stadium was built on and used in the early 50 - that picture is taken right above it!

Another photo here, http://dicmortimer.com/2013/02/09/sporting-death/ The school you see behind the main stand, Ninian Park School, is still there to this day.

It was 24th July 1937 and the actual programme cover is displayed in the Old Programme Gallery on the speedwayswapshop.co.uk website.

Not a very factual report on the GP at Cardiff in that article.

I find the speedway reference to Cardiff and speedway interesting. Its analysis of the GP there and the event's lack of a local link especially interesting more so how it also feels about sports events at Wembley, http://dicmortimer.com/2013/02/09/sporting-death/
