Humphrey Appleby
Seems to me that people who don't like the notion of the World Speedway League have objected to it primarily on the grounds of it will feature teams for whom the same riders ride for. Now that the FIM are doing something about the riders issue, the same people are objecting to the FIM proposal, just because it eliminates their arguement against the World Speedway League But the FIM's proposal doesn't solve the problem. Riders will still potentially be riding for two different teams in the same competition, and the notion that they pick one will still make a farce of a true test of teams. Is the FIM are serious, they'd go down the franchise route and try to sell the concept to television and sponsors. To those who'll say there's no fan interest, well there were plenty of naysayers when this was done in other sports, and maybe speedway also needs to be attracting a different audience. Until then, the 'World Speedway League' is nothing more than a grandiose name for a cobbled together 4TT, and the FIM seriously think that riders are going to accept reduced earnings as a result of it? ABS
They could insist that one of the 2 leagues must be in the rider's own country. In the case of Australians, Americans etc the riders residencial country could apply. But where would that leave the likes of Zagar and Vaculik who probably reside at home, where there are weak to non-existent leagues?
severnsider
KK not very happy about the idea per sportowe fakty article What do you think about the ideas of limitations starts to two leagues players? - I find it pointless idea. They take us to takeoffs and earnings. Not only did we go only half a year, and yet the company and employees must continue throughout the year, it's still trying to make us some limitations. If someone does not start in the Grand Prix and go in only one or two leagues, where does he get paid? It's all good and it is not really going in the wrong direction. We are still in the European Union and we can go where and how we want. And when it comes to the Champions League in the developed formula, you think this idea as a good solution? - Additional four games are fine. But you have to think things through, would not have turned out that someone can walk four games, and will not be able to compete in several events in a different league. barrow boy
But where would that leave the likes of Zagar and Vaculik who probably reside at home, where there are weak to non-existent leagues? I agree. Major league countries only then. i.e Poland, Sweden, UK and perhaps Denmark. riders from other countries to be able to nominate a preferred home league and one other. Despite the fact that the World Speedway League wasn't invented here, and despite the fact that it will show British Speedway to be the poor relation (again) it's going to happen. Get used to it, and cut your cloth accordingly. In the long term it will be the competition that teams will aspire to, in the same way as the Champions Leage is for football. Either that or it'll bankrupt them.
