BWitcher
Who are these endless people .? why don't you name them and I go and ask them ...I have the feeling a coward like you is not going to able to . What do you know, I was told in 1958 you were a p... , before you were born, you were 12, were you? You're not young, you're old, born 10 years ago, know your stuff, what value do you add, you don't know anything about any sport, name a sport, good value you are on most things, 1964, were you? I've asked you, did you? Where, Nielsen, 1972 knew he was the best. Ability, spoke to someone who was there, you weren't born yet. Good banter, respect, you p****.
Bagpuss
Tin hat on...good at what he does...but Id rather watch paint dry than the Grin. Seconded. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder of course, but he just doesn't do it for me.
g13webb
Seconded. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder of course, but he just doesn't do it for me. As with so many things our opinions differ. To me Greg represents everything that is good about our sport. Fantastic Ambassador, genuinely nice person and a terrific Sportsman. By far. the best gater in the world, a talented World Class riders who always puts bum on seats wherever he rides. Some of his victories at Cardiff have been unreal. Truly a top world class rider. Now if you cant appreciate that, then I suggest you cant appreciate anything..... Best you go and watch that paint dry....... I never said that he wasn't a great rider, good ambassador, nice bloke, couldn't be appreciated etc etc. He is all of those things and I respect him as a rider and a fine competitor, especially at his age, but I find watching him incredibly dull, regardless of his ability. Most of his races involve him gating like a rocket and riding the fastest line to a tee for for laps, just doesn't do it for me personally. Respect him enormously though, who wouldn't.
Midland Red
I am somewhat surprised at some of the anti-Hancock sentiment being shown. He is a really nice person, or seems to be, a triple WC with a GP record almost impossible to beat and the fact he has avoided serious injury for 20 years is no accident (excuse the pun). He knows what to do and when to do it which puts him right up there in my opinion. I am not particularly "anti-Hancock" - but I don't find him an exciting rider, nor do I think he is, or ever has been, as good as my top 10 - Nielsen Mauger Fundin Rickardsson Penhall Briggs Gundersen Craven Lee Knutsson or others like Plechanov and two Pedersens (Jan O and Nicki) I do admire his longevity at the top of the sport

SCB
Wonder where Woffy might rank come the end of his career? Niamh A World title at 23 is always going to put you quite high up IMO. Especially when you win it with many injuries. But he still has 20 years left if he does a Greg and could win many title in that time - I see no reason why he can't win at least one more. Please tell me how you can respect a man, you find incredibly dull ?? Hancock is out of the Mauger Mould, where he would usually gate and go. But to me that is part and parcel of the game. To watch someone who rides as consistent as those two riders is what speedway is all about. The definition of a good rider is some one who wins, not necessarily, who has to always come from the back.

Cockney Rebel
As every "Hammer" from the 60's knows. the best rider ever was Sverre Harrfeldt. Wasn't the best ever rider when the champ howdy byford kept him in last place in a race at hackney in one match.Oh how we hawks fans loved that howdy was an old man then too probably about thesame age as greg hancock is now but he always looked like he was in his seventies must admit though haarfeldt was a very exciting rider. speedway couldn't get anybetter than the hackney/west ham matches. waiheke1
Wonder where Woffy might rank come the end of his career? Niamh currently he'd be top 50. Another title and I'd saythat would establish him with the two PCs as one of the top 3 all time brits, and top 20 of all time.

Im bot doubting hes a great rider but IMO he is boring to watch doesnt detract from him being good No, not personal mate, just an opinion. I find it surprising that people like yourself think the way you do. I go to speedway to see many things. Of course I love to see exciting racing, who don't..... but I also appreciate the finer things in the sport as well. To me Greg is an exemplary rider, who never puts a foot wrong. A role model to the extreme, the perfect rider. He's that good, especial from the gate, I agree sometimes it can be boring for those who wanted others to win....... When the chips are down Hancock will be there or thereabouts..... Call him many names: Sometimes he's Brilliant, Sometimes he's majestic, Sometimes he's just too good, but he's never dull !!!!!!!

Are you for Real ? it's easy to respect someone who is dull ...Cliff Thornburn was one of the dullest Snooker players you could ever find but he had the respect of nearly all and there are many people in many sports who are just the same as him . Just like many others i find Hancock dull to watch but have great respect for what he has done . Edited February 9, 2015 by orion

I respect him for his success and the fact that he is doing it in his forties, that he still has the desire to achieve so late in his career and that he does it with a smile on his face and is liked by his fellow competitors. Doesn't stop me finding him dull to watch! The two things are unrelated.
