Ok,so it seems no-one from the other side of the berlin wall would make it into a best ever East European team,so who would be the best of the German Democrats?

My guess

1.Jürgen Hehlert

2. Bubi Fritz

3.Dieter Tetzlaff

4.Jochen Dinse

5.Diethelm Triemer

6.Clemens Bever

and then Mike Ott,Gerhard Uhlenbrock,Werner + Jochen Mell,Peter Liebing,Günther Schelenz and who gives a damn

"bubi" Hans-Jürgen Fritz I included. Thought one or two might have seen Uhlenbrock(I did) when he rode for Coventry. Not sure who got the story out that he came over to the west with his fmily smuggled in a sidecar.Might have been Ochiltree or even Dave Lanning, but it wasn't true, just a bit of publicity

Hehlert rode 1 match for Hull back in '74.

If you're looking at combined Germany, don't forget Germans Champions Marvyn Cox and Todd Wiltshire.

All the best

Rob

I think the designation is for riders with the nationality stated? rather than German championship winners - and were Cox and Wiltshire East or West German champions? Or GERMAN champions?

Here's a record of East Germany at international speedway level:-

Was there a reason you didn't go with a unified german team?

Muller, smoli, maier and riss would be a solid top four.

Yes.I wanted to do an obscure team  Not as obscure as the Isle of Dogs though,if they can manage a team. But I was thinking along the lines of East Germany then doing a north + south German team.It also puts some little known, but in some parts idolised riders in the spotlight for a few minutes. Some of these guys really are big heroes to lots of speedway fans who couldn't get to see many of the stars we had a chance to see.Tetzlaff is a big star in Güstrow. And in a combined team most wouldn't get a mention

.I'd agree with your 4 plus Norbolds choice with maybe two Hamburg riders in there as well.Pre-war Rumrich and post war Dannmeyer

Found it! He rode in the 1967 World Final at Wembley (didn't score). I knew I recognised the name from somewhere.

All the best

Rob

You would think I'd remember that.
