stratton
Darcy ahead of sanders or p crump surely? Or are you assuming he is still suspended?Would Darcy be ahead of Adams? i believe he underachieved more than Crump(senior) and Sanders and this is from a bloke who see Adams everyweek.! waiheke1
Adams ahead of those three imho, though I really hope darcy fulfills his talent, because he has the potential ti be the best aussie ever. adams like sanders finished twice on the podium, though I doubt billy (or phil) would have managed that under the gp system. Adams has topped el averages which phil/billy never did, won numerous gps (phil/billy didnt win too many major events that I recall), a world u21 title. Also multiple world cup titles, though in fairness phil/billy didnt have the support to replicate that. Adams is often mentioned as one of the best not to be world champ, neither sanders or crump quite fall into that catrgory.

Phil Crump in 1975 was often mentioned in speedway circles by Briggs (ect) as a World Champion he should of been.Briggs said he should of saved his Street conversion and he could of been World Champion he was good anough.People forget before Phil's crash with Ashby at Sheffield in 77 he was often around the best six riders in the world i would say certainly in 74,75,76.For me in 75 it was one that got away from Phil, for me Adams along with Simmo are the two finest riders style wise that i have ever see ride.Crump(senior), Sigalos,Adams, are the three in my lifetime that were good anough at one single time to be World Champion but it was not to be. lucifer sam
Darcy ahead of sanders or p crump surely? Or are you assuming he is still suspended? Maybe in a few years time, Ward would be included within a squad of riders. He's done little to warrant a place so far, though. Places are awarded on what riders have achieved, not on their potential. Actually, I consider Todd Wiltshire more of an omission that Darcy Ward. But you've got to stop somewhere. waiheke1
Agree in some ways rob. But if I were picking a side to beat that tough Scandinavian side, I'd rather have darcy in my team than phil or billy or todd.

lucifer sam
Agree in some ways rob. But if I were picking a side to beat that tough Scandinavian side, I'd rather have darcy in my team than phil or billy or todd. Well none of them in my side in any case. Just in the squad. And with a first team as strong as Ivan Mauger, Barry Briggs, Ronnie Moore, Jack Young, Jason Crump, Bluey Wilkinson and Vic Duggan, there's not going to be many opportunites to break into the side, and Holder and Van Praag (and possibly Graham Warren at his best) are next in line in case of any injuries. IMO Holder is currently still way ahead of Ward. Of course, that could change, if Darcy knuckles down and achieves something to go alongside that obvious natural ability. Grachan
I've said that myself in the past, that Phil Crump should have been World Champion in 1975 and held back the 4 valve. Phil Crump was phenomenol, but lacked the killer instinct in World Championships. I remember a Speedway Star article in about 1982 saying he was the best rider in the World. Yet in World Finals he never really did the businiess, particularly in the 1980s. But this is abut a team event, and I'd put him about Ward, and even Holder in that respect.
