Air Ambulance Rescues Speedway Rider

Recommended Posts

The 1st episode of Air Ambulance ER showed a speedway rider being uplifted from a track in NW England which I think was Workington. If you are interested it will be repeated at: Sat. 10th Jan @ 9pm Sky2 and Mon. 12 Jan @ 10pm Sky1

I would say from looking at it that it was The Isle of White, you could see the sea when they took off and when they inteviewd him when he was better and in the pits the bib behind him had got White Islaners on the front, Not sure when it was filmed though.

It was at Derwent Park (Workington.....maybe last season ???) The rider is Chris Mills.

It's a new series on Sky about the Great North Air Ambulance Service who really do make a difference between life and death in the North East and North West, sadly both areas with very poor A&E coverage.

Not only about the Great North Air Ambulance as it also featured the Hampshire Air Ambulance too - the Red one!!!

The same Workington that had to abandon a meeting because they couldn't get a road ambulance there last year?

The meeting that abandoned was the Edinburgh meeting. Over an hours wait for a road ambulance, no air ambulance required for a suspected broken ankle. Mills was riding for Glasgow and had suffered potentially serious chest, neck and back injuries hence the need for an air ambulance

and also the ground county ambulance was allready there and it was them and the doctor combined that decided the air ambulace was the best option

I don't deny the need for an air ambulance where circumstances require it, just perplexed by the inability to get a road ambulance in a reasonable amount of time. It's not like Workington is a little hamlet out in the middle of nowhere. Talking of which it's not a problem that Buxton have ever had either, and that is a track in the middle of nowhere. Are resources in that city really so stretched?

The circumstances behind the 2 medical shortages at Worky have been fully explained, and accepted, whilst you were away on your sabbatical. Looks like you will just have to stay perplexed.
