From some Wembley programmes:

1 Aug 1970 Wembley v Exeter

Event 2 - Two lap dash match race (rolling start, record 33.4 secs) - Martin Ashby v Reidar Eide

Event 4 - - do - - Ole Olsen v Ove Fundin

29 Aug 1970 Wembley v Wolverhampton

Event 3 - "The Cinders" one lap flying start (record 17.0 secs, Freddie Williams, 45.48 mph) - Bert Harkins

5 Sep 1970 Wembley v Coventry

Event 2 - "The Cinders" one lap flying start (record 17.0 secs, Freddie Williams, 45.48 mph) - Reidar Eide

9 Sep 1970 Wembley v Halifax

Event 2 - "The Cinders" one lap flying start (record 17.0 secs, Freddie Williams, 45.48 mph) - Eric Boocock

26 Sep 1970 Wembley v Newcastle

Event 2 - "The Cinders" one lap flying start (record 17.0 secs, Freddie Williams, 45.48 mph) - Ronnie Moore

Sadly, I cannot provide any results, but clearly, after introducing the 2 lap dashes, it was decided to replace them with the one lap dash in (most) meeting second-halves in 1970 - and no-one appears to have lowered Freddie Williams' record

Excellent.

Thanks Midland Red, i knew i hadn't dreamed it. :)

I have dug out some old programmes and can provide most of the results as follows...........

1 August 1970 - Wembley v Exeter

Two LAP Dash (1)

Reidar Eide beat Martin Ashby 35.8

Two Lap Dash (2)

Ole Olsen beat Bert Harkins 35.1

(out of interest the fastest time of the night was 71.8)

29 August 1970 - Wembley v Wolverhampton

I don't seem to have this programme.

5 September 1970 - Wembley v Coventry

The Cinders - One lap flying start

Reidar Eide 17.3

9 September 1970 - Wembley v Halifax

The Cinders - One lap flying start

Eric Boocock - race did not take place (he didn't finish his subsequent 2nd half race either so maybe he had bike trouble?)

Instead there appeared to have been a 3 lap match race in which Dave Jessup beat Barry Thomas in 55.4.

26 September 1970 - Wembley v Newcastle

The Cinders - One lap flying start

Ronnie Moore 17.6

3 October 1970 - Wembley v European Stars

The Cinders - One lap flying start

Ole Olsen 17.3

Always seem to have been a good variety of 2nd half events that season.
In 1971 they were generally the standard 8 heat affairs - 1 Reserves race; 4 Trophy qualifiers; 2 Trophy semi-finals ; 1 Trophy final.
So 21 heats each week!!
