New Cross

Harringay

West Ham

Wimbledon

White City

Wembley

Romford

and (just outside)
High Beech

I did get to some others like Cradley Heath and Hyde Road, but just looking at London tracks is bad enough!

Sad see Vic for Weymouth and Hackney and for Hackney he was improving everyone gives Vic a great word a nice man sadly missed.

If you watched those clubs in London three days a week god was hard to travel much away anyway City .Wouldnt it be great to have three great clubs in the capital Wimbledon/Hackney i loved going to especially don't be late Friday at eight i loved Hackney i see Martin Ashby win the superama there.

It would be quite nice to have 1 great club in the capital...or just one club. How can we call speedway a National sport when 8,000,000 people don't have a club to support.

According to the Defunct Speedway website, High Beech was still staging meetings right up to 1967.

The meeting I went to at High Beech was actually in 1968, celebrating the 40th anniversary of the first meeting. In fact the last meeting at High Beech was later than the last meetings at New Cross and Harringay.

P.S. And Southampton!

That wasn't a meeting as such, more a celebration so doesn't count!

BTW, I've seen that pic of you at HB in 1960 and there wasn't a viable track in place then either. When was the last actual race meeting staged there?

There was a viable track in place in 1968. Jimmy Gooch had leased it in 1967 to run a training school and resuscitated the track. It was this track that was used at the 40th anniversary meeting in 1968. Many former riders gave demonstrations on the track including Roger Frogley, Wal Phillips, Jack Barnett and Syd Edmonds. So I did see speedway at the track, albeit not a match or individual trophy.

The last time High Beech was used for matches was 1939. It was used as a training track in1947, 49 and 50 and then that was it till 1967.

why, it's a good topic. When I think back to sitting on those hard wooden seats in the main stand at custom house, it brings a tear to my eye!

We must have been sitting close to each other. I was always in the main stand just above the starting gate, Happy days my friend, happy days.

I reckon Norbold should officially be allowed to count High beech-so there!!

Thank you, BOBBATH. You're a gentleman and I agree with you!

If being at High Beech in Feb 1968 for the 40th. Anniversary counts as seeing speedway at a defunct track, I can add this to my list.
