Main Man
COVENTRY have announced Cornishman Martin Knuckey will return to their National League team next season. And in a double signing for the City Gearboxes Storm, locally-based former Bees mascot Conor Dwyer will step up to a team place for the first time at reserve.Knuckey made good progress in the second half of the 2014 season and also plans to re-locate to the area next year, which will be his third in Coventry colours.Dwyer has been a familiar face around Brandon for several years, and has recently been racing in the Midland Development League as well as making guest appearances at NL level.Storm boss Laurence Rogers said: “Martin was impressive towards the end of the season, scoring some good points and taking some good scalps. “He knows 2015 needs to be a big year for him, moving up into the main body of the team, and I feel he’s worth a lot more than his average.“He’s also going to be moving up to the area, and it will be a big help to him not having a four-and-a-half hour journey to every home meeting, and he’ll also gain from watching and learning from the Elite League riders. I know him inside-out and I know there’s a lot of ability there.“Conor has been unlucky with injuries in the last couple of years, but he’s packing in work to ride speedway in 2015, he’ll be full-time speedway and he’s committed himself completely.“That was an impressive element for us when we looked at him, he becomes another asset for our ever-growing list and he’s very determined to improve and do well for his local club.”The Storm now have three places to fill to complete their line-up, with news on the top end of the team expected in the near future.
TesarRacing
Great news that Martin has signed up for the Storm again - he had a great 2nd half of the season. It will be great to see ex Bees mascot Conor in a Storm race jacket too!!
Sings4Speedway
Sorry to sound grim but Dwyer packing up work to concentrate on speedway? Either he has good backing or good savings? Very few could make the NL pay for itself, giving up work should be the last consideration ive known riders take on extra jobs to help pay for racing. I laughed when I read that. quitting his job to to score 3 points a meeting at £10 a point, so £30 a meeting for 20ish meetings means he's going to make £600 this year

He's just about young enough to do. You do have to bite the bullet...... Edited December 19, 2014 by TMW
dj350z
How do you ever make the breakthrough then?
SarahLapworth
To be fair Conor is a good lad and deserves his chance in the National League. He has been knocking on the door for the last couple of years but has been unlucky with injuries that have hindered his progress. The last I knew he was working at a big chain supermarket so it's not as if he's dropping a 6 figure salary (sorry if that sounds blunt). If I was young again I would gladly pack it all in to follow my dreams. It may or may not work out for him but I have the confidence that given this opportunity and the support that comes with it he will be a valued team member of the Storm Edited December 20, 2014 by Kelvin Lapworth
