Ben Fund, Swindon March 8

Recommended Posts

Hi there. We spent all day Thursday getting the air fence out and in place. Turns 3 and 4 are difficult to locate because the pit gate has to fit perfectly, so we had to move both sets of fences back and forth to get that right. Turns 1 and 2 are much simpler, being just one run. They're all clipped together and will need no more than 2 hours work next Thursday to get right. The main straight is still very wet, but it always is at this time of the year - the frost has been drawn up through the shale but it was much better this week than last. The drains are all being pumped out each week and just keeping standing water off the track is making a real difference. Fingers crossed for a dry week next week!

For more information on the track, and how wet we all got yesterday morning in the rain, check out the Blog - should have it posted by late afternoon on Sunday.

I think you guys should be applauded for all the hard work that goes on behind the scenes.

Have the full line ups for this meeting been released yet, surely the programmes will have to be printed soon.

Released this morning.

England Kyle Howarth, Richard Lawson, Adam Roynon and Ben Barker.

Australia Rory Schlein, Nick Morris, Sam Masters, Rusty Harrison

Denmark Bjarne Pedersen, Thomas Jorgensen, Jan Graversen, Kenneth Hansen

Poland Szymon Wozniak, Jakub Jamrog, Greg Walasek, Adam Skornicki

The visa issues has not helped the line up for this meeting but will still go after a winter without a speedway fix, also the meeting is for a great cause.

I have to say (from a position of relative ignorance) that Craig Cook comes over as a bit of a nob not having any machinery ready for this event, or am I missing something?

His first match is not till 29th March.

Maybe he's still waiting for a delivery of his fuel?

If he doesn't have bikes ready i don't understand what the problem is? He stated himself he would only be able to do the meeting if he had bikes ready. What would you rather see Cook turn up with no machinery or bits he put together or someone who has ready to go racing?

He is shipping his bikes over to Poland for Stal Gorzow's Practice week, so I imagine he won't have one ready to ride in this country until he comes back. He certainly isn't pulling a Lewis Bridger!

Shame about the poor line up,I think it will put many off attending

Looks fine to me. Maybe if all you want is big names it is a let down, but for me it's a well balanced field with some exciting riders and a few interesting inclusions.

The format is a bigger issue IMO. I don't get these made up teams that are put together for one of meetings. Just make it an individual meeting.

The reasoning behind this is that it was an individual meeting up until 2013, but crowds started to ebb away. At Leicester last year, it was changed to England vs Rest Of The World (still with an individual event in the second half) and resulted in the second highest attendance for a Ben Fun Bonanza, after Rye House in 2010.

This year, there’s another slight tweak in format to a 4TT, plus an individual at the end. So there’s something for many speedway fans who like to watch team speedway, plus still something for those who prefer individual meetings.

But really this is all insignificant to raising money for the Ben Fund. Very first meeting of the season, plus money being raised for a very worthy cause. That’s what it’s all about, really.

EDIT: Plus Mike Hunter always puts together a top class programme that even you buy. ;)

All the best

Rob

Seems Craig Cook is "doing a Lewis Bridger" - after a whole winter of doing nothing, knowing in advance that he won't have a bike ready to compete. WHAT A DISGRACE.

More likely he's having a sulk that he's been invited to take part in the same team as Ben Barker. In which case, GROW UP COOK!

Wouldn't it be an irony if Cook got an injury that caused him to go cap in hand to BEN for financial assistance. Good job that BEN are probably too honorable and dignified to tell Cook where he should go in such a circumstance.

You talk some amount of crap! Someone has all ready stated that he is shipping bikes out to Poland for his teams practice week!

He took part in the same team as Ben last year so again talking rubbish

Wishing injury on a rider now that just how much of a DISGRACE you are

Seems like a poor excuse to me. Why agree to ride in the meeting if he wasn't going to have bikes? Lewis Bridger quite rightly got a lot of stick last season so don't see why Craig should expect to be treated any different this year.

He said he would do the meeting if he had bikes witch doesn't hence the withdrawal

Give it a rest.

So you don't like the guy?

Maybe some of us don't care much for you.
