Ben Fund, Swindon March 8

Recommended Posts

So the Ben Fund meeting's at Swindon on March 8 next year. http://www.swindonlinksport.com/2014/12/17/swindon-to-host-prestigious-ben-fund-meeting/

This article says they handed out nearly 100k last year, which is amazing support for riders like Ricky Ashworth. I didn't realise they were quite at that level, fantastic stuff.

No problem with the date or venue but whoever thought up a 4pm start time ? To get fans to travel why ever not make it a 2pm start .

Because there is a market on within Stadium grounds which proves quite busy - there would be no space for car parking for both events at the same time.

Market starts quietening down at about 2-2.30pm, so I'd imagine that's the earliest they could look to be opening the gates for Speedway parking. It's not just a random made up time, there is logic it seems.

well if that's the reason it's the wrong venue this meeting is about making money for a great cause - id have thought it's about maxing out to attract the biggest crowd possible to get the greatest £s return for a great cause 4pm start won't achieve that .

Crowds on a Monday evening for Playoffs would throw your theory out of the water. If the event is right, and as you say it is a fantastic cause, then people will attend.

Drove past the track today and it is looking ok, air fence seems to be in place. Could do with a bit more news on riders etc. I am sure Rosco or whoever runs it will make announcements when poss. but only 9 days to go. No doubt the visa situation may be the reason for delays.

Hi there. We spent all day Thursday getting the air fence out and in place. Turns 3 and 4 are difficult to locate because the pit gate has to fit perfectly, so we had to move both sets of fences back and forth to get that right. Turns 1 and 2 are much simpler, being just one run. They're all clipped together and will need no more than 2 hours work next Thursday to get right. The main straight is still very wet, but it always is at this time of the year - the frost has been drawn up through the shale but it was much better this week than last. The drains are all being pumped out each week and just keeping standing water off the track is making a real difference. Fingers crossed for a dry week next week!

For more information on the track, and how wet we all got yesterday morning in the rain, check out the Blog - should have it posted by late afternoon on Sunday.
