IMPORTANT PRESS RELEASE FROM STOKE SPEEDWAY

SHAUN TEDHAM RETURNS WITH A VOW

Stoke ‘Easy Rider’ Potters’ have re-signed the “Scouser with a Mission” Shaun Tedham on his three point National League average and the quick witted friendly Liverpudlian is ready to take the National League by storm. “I wanted this so badly I am thrilled to bits indeed I was hanging on after several other offers because Stoke is where I wanted to be. he said with some feeling. “I’m the first to admit last time it didn’t go quite right but that’s in the past and I am devoted to helping the Potters do well next season. I am over the moon and back again about this and the speedway world will see a new Shaun Tedham.” he said.

Tedham suffered last season due to the rules preventing two riders over thirty competing in the same side but these have been relaxed and at thirty four Tedham has the energy of a Liverpool spring chicken and intends to bring the points home to roost at Loomer Road. Despite his limited competitive speedway he averaged ten points per match for Milton Keynes in the Midland Development League last season and appears to be a sound signing as Stoke grapple with the contracted points limit to give the best chance of forming an effective unit. “Shaun is a great lad in so many ways and has bounced back with a vengeance. said Team Manager Malcolm Vasey. “He is effervescent in his approach and I never met a man more keen to ride for Stoke or any other team I have been at and as three pointer he will take many scalps in heat two next season and will help us spring back to the force that we have been at this level in the past. I look at the team and I see I see only riders on a mission. No Prima Donnas, an honest team with the capacity to improve.” Added Vasey.

“We have one space to fill now, said Promoter Dave Tattum “Anybody can guess who that is we are waiting for formalities to be completed in that case and hope it will be sorted shortly after Christmas. he said. “We have a certain confidence in this team every single one is an out and out team man the will complement each other and we hope to go places. said Tattum.

Hmm, no offence to Shaun but I find myself slightly underwhelmed by this news.

He is incredibly enthusiastic, and is fantastic with the fans, but I don't know.

Still, I wish him all the luck he in the world, and will cheer him on, same with anyone who wears the race jacket!

IMPORTANT PRESS RELEASE FROM STOKE SPEEDWAY

LOCAL LAD AT NO.8 FOR THE POTTERS

Although Stoke “Eazy Rider” Potters still have one place to finalise in the main body of their 2015 team they have added Sandbach youngster Sam Ward to their squad as No.8 under the new regulations for the 2015 season.

Sam, who is 17 has set his heart on a speedway career and has represented the Stoke “Spitfires” in the Midland Development League many times in the last two seasons during which time he also made appearances for Buxton in the National League. Despite this he is a young man who has always wished to be able to fulfil his ambitions in the sport at Stoke and it is this recognised loyalty to the Club that has advanced his case for inclusion albeit in a kind of apprentice role. Sam began his progress towards a career in speedway with a 125 cc machine when he was seven years old and is thrilled to take this step forward especially for the Potters. He was the Stoke mascot for several seasons before he was old enough to ride competitively. Stoke Team Manager Malcolm Vasey feels that Ward is on the verge of his dreams. “The lad made a lot of progress last season and is well kitted out with two machines and has brand new kevlars in readiness for the new season. He assures me that he will be spending time in the gym to raise his fitness levels and he has an excellent attitude and the determination to succeed in a very difficult sport. He Captained the Midland Development League side last season and will continue in that capacity in 2015. It is always good to have local riders in a team and in the course of history many such men have worn the Potters colours with distinction. Sam has earned the opportunity to follow in their footsteps and I wish him the best of luck.” added Vasey. “I am very pleased about this and I really hope to grab any opportunities that come along and score points. I know I still have many things to learn but this gives me that chance.” said Sam Ward.

Sam works part time at Sandbach Services and is studying Computer Controlled Engineering at college and is fully aware of the busy times that lie ahead as his career develops further.

Malcolm Vasey apologised for the delay in completing the 1-7 for Stoke in 2015.

“It’s all but fixed now and I hope that we can make an announcement in a few days.” he said.

Stoke Potters have announced details of Season Ticket prices for the 2015 season. These will be:

Adults - £170

Old Age Pensioners - £130

Commenting on the prices Promoter Dave Tattum said “The prices are unchanged from last season and these prices offer very good value for money and a saving on the match by match costs. The tickets cover all speedway matches at Loomer Road next season and include a match programme. I feel that we have an excellent team and one that we will be challenging for honours next season and I hope that supporters will want to follow the team we have managed to put together. We have just one spot to fill and expect to be in a position to make an announcement about that within the next few days.” added Tattum.

Season Tickets can be ordered by phone using 07789 028003 as the contact number.

Fair play 170 with programme. Excellent value!

Is it?

Last season, if memory serves, it was £12 + £1 for a programme, so £13 per meeting. If we assume the same is true this season, you have £13 a meeting again for what you are getting for a season ticket.

There are 10 confirmed teams for the NL,meaning 9 home meetings. Stoke haven't declared in the National Trophy. Stoke have no shared events.

On that basis, £13 a meeting would cost you £117 for the league meetings.

Let's assume that all 10 teams are in the KoC, you would need a Prelim round, then a round of 8, 4 and 2 (The final) so at the absolute most, 4 additional meetings.

Let's also assume that Stoke make it to the Gold Cup at the end of the season. A further 2 meetings, maximum.

And finally, let's assume that the Pride of the Potteries makes a miraculous comeback. We will also throw in 2 challenge meetings.

At the very best, that works out as 18 meetings, or £234. A solid saving of £64.

However, let's work on the worst case scenario. Challenge meetings get rained off due to the early season weather. There is no POTP, and Stoke crash out in the first round of the KoC, and don't make the Gold Cup.

You've paid for 10 meetings (9 league, 1 KoC) so you would have paid £130, but instead you paid £170 for a season ticket.

The ONLY way that this works out as good value, is that Stoke have to run 14 meetings this season at home. 9 will be in the league, so there has to be a further 5 meetings before you save money. That is not good value in the slightest. Infact, that is horrible value.

The season ticket should be at or below £130, because £130 is the theoretical minimum that it will cost to see every meeting that matters this season.

I assume you haven't seen it mate. All 10 are in the Cup and Stoke are in the preliminary round against Rye and then face a quarter-final against Cradley. If they overcome both of those it's a semi-final against Mildenhall, King's Lynn or Buxton.

I honestly couldn't remember. Figured it was easier to play devils advocate.

Point remains, a Stoke season ticket is horrendous value.

A possible saving of £64 pounds. Like you said, good value.Of course the world could end and all that spent money is down the drain. Pull the drawbridge up it's not worth carrying on.
