Warsaw Gp Saturday 18th April

EXTREMELY ... it was actually warmer outside. The whole Doyle episode was very confusing. He clearly did move before the green light went out but it wasn't referee Jim Lawrence's intention to exclude him, only issue a warning. Something got lost in the communication to the pits and Jury President Tony Steele later apologised to the Aussie. I have a direct walkie-talkie link to the referee (via FIM SGP Secretary Graham Brodie, who sits next to him) and the race director and with all the noise reverberating around the stadium could barely hear a thing that was being said.

Comedy gold that. :rofl::rofl: :rofl:

If the referee didn't exclude him, why didn't he ensure he was back in the race before proceeding? Quite odd

Which also sums up how pathetic the officiating was, despite the attempted exoneration in the Spar.

I would accept that so many things went wrong that the officials may have become overloaded in their rational decision making capability (it's a well understood phenomena), but it merely highlights the pathetic underlying organisation that caused all the problems.

Yes, but who is responsible for providing the equipment (and the spares)? All very well testing, but if there's something wrong with it that causes it to fail prematurely, that surely is down to the suppliers.

The stuff about walkie talkies also made me chuckle. Didn't they go out with the Vietnam War?

You know, it's also very loud at a Formula 1 race, but they have radios with headphones so the officials can communicate with each other. And there's even this amazing technology called SMS that teenagers use - you might have heard of it? LOL

Walkie talkies ... two way radios ... what's the difference? We do have radios with headphones but I'm sorry if I confused you by calling them walkie-talkies.

Do you seriously think it would be better if officials sent text messages to each other?

Lights, starting gates, etc., supplied by SpeedSport.

All to do with thoses pesky klingons on the starboard bow.

Now all together sing.

Star Trekkin' across the universe,

On the Starship Enterprise under Captain Kirk.

Star Trekkin' across the universe,

Boldly going forward 'cause we can't find reverse.

Lt. Uhura, report.

There's Klingons on the starboard bow, starboard bow, starboard bow;

there's Klingons on the starboard bow, starboard bow, Jim.

Analysis, Mr. Spock.

It's life, Jim, but not as we know it, not as we know it, not as we know it; it's life, Jim, but not as we know it, not as we know it, Captain.

There's Klingons on the starboard bow, starboard bow, starboard bow;

there's Klingons on the starboard bow, starboard bow, Jim.

Star Trekkin' across the universe,

On the Starship Enterprise under Captain Kirk.

Star Trekkin' across the universe,

Boldly going forward, still can't find reverse.

Medical update, Dr. McCoy.

It's worse than that, he's dead, Jim, dead, Jim, dead, Jim;

it's worse than that, he's dead, Jim, dead, Jim, dead.

It's life, Jim, but not as we know it, not as we know it, not as we know it; it's life, Jim, but not as we know it, not as we know it, Captain.

There's Klingons on the starboard bow, starboard bow, starboard bow;

there's Klingons on the starboard bow, starboard bow, Jim.

Starship Captain, James T. Kirk:

Ah! We come in peace, shoot to kill, shoot to kill, shoot to kill;

we come in peace, shoot to kill, shoot to kill, men.

It's worse than that, he's dead, Jim, dead, Jim, dead, Jim;

there's Klingons on the starboard bow, scrape 'em off, Jim.

Star Trekkin' across the universe,

On the Starship Enterprise under Captain Kirk.

Star Trekkin' across the universe,

Boldly going forward, and things are getting worse!

Engine room, Mr. Scott:

Ye cannae change the laws of physics, laws of physics, laws of physics;

ye cannae change the laws of physics, laws of physics, Jim.

Ah! We come in peace, shoot to kill, shoot to kill, shoot to kill;

we come in peace, shoot to kill; Scotty, beam me up!

It's worse than that, he's dead, Jim, dead, Jim, dead, Jim;

it's worse than that, he's dead, Jim, dead, Jim, dead.

Well, it's life, Jim, but not as we know it, not as we know it, not as we know it; it's life, Jim, but not as we know it, not as we know it, Captain.

There's Klingons on the starboard bow, starboard bow, starboard bow;

there's Klingons on the starboard bow, starboard bow Jim!

You can not change the strength Jim of the engines.

It's worse than that, it's physics, Jim.

Bridge to engine room, warp factor 9.

Och, if I give it any more she'll blow, Cap'n!

Red Alert Red Alert

The headsets were not any better than the phones apparently and Jim Lawrence,s mobile was turned off for the meeting (FIM regs)

The Referees box wasn't enclosed and was open to the main arena so the noise was ridiculous.

There seems little doubt that had the track been fine, the starts worked and the meeting gone to heat 23.

We would still be talking about this one for the atrocious refereeing.

.

Thankfully a few of us now know the truth

Maybe they should have used semaphore as a back up :P

Better still give the start tarts flags and make them do something useful co at present they look as if they have escaped rom a knocking shop - so classy for what is supposedly a world class event :mad:

I think I still remember it from my days in the girl guides if they need any tuition :rofl:

I seriously think it would be better that in the 21st century, officials were able to communicate with each other properly. Is it beyond the wit of a professional organising company to have refereeing decisions relayed by some modern communications method? Some modern 'walkie talkies' even have texting functions if it's too hard to relay race control information to a screen trackside (something that your average corporate kart circuit can manage).

Even assuming all that's too advanced, the SCB regulations from donkey's years ago made provision for the referee to have coloured lamps in the box to indicate exclusions if the lights failed. This is from a race series that doesn't seem to have heard of transponders used at even the lowest levels of motor sport.

NEVER been a problem before and the two-way radios used are about as modern as you can get. Even the telephone link between the pits and the referee's box was tough for either party to hear. Easy for people not there to comment but I have never known the ambient noise in the stadium to have such an effect on communications, especially as the referee's box was in the open. Just one of many things that on the night failed to work perfectly.

I know you cannot resist pointing the finger at a 'professional organising company' but there are some aspects of staging a SGP that are ultimately the responsibility of the FIM although, as previously stated, no one could really have envisaged how tough it was until the event got underway.

I'd love to live in your world where everyone gets everything right all the time.

Well I think more than some of the time would be a lot better to start off with.

Your not telling me that this was all to do with a fantasy jinx on everything all night are you.

NO I'm not ... just trying to explain things as they were. Let's not forget that unlike Cardiff, Copenhagen or Stockholm, where the pits area is pretty well insulated from the stadium noise, communication was an unforeseen problem and just added to the many things that shouldn't have gone wrong on the night but sadly did. It was indeed a catalogue of errors.
