Tai Woffinden Misses Next Years El

Recommended Posts

Boo Hoo Woffinden has gone abroad to get more money, Good on him, his career only going to last 20/25 years max make all you can while you can.

Stay in UK get paid less and ride against poor opposition.

OR

Ride abroad get paid more and ride against world class riders every week.

Hmmmmmm?

Highly expected but hugely disappointing.

He clearly took on too much in 2014 as World Champion but sadly only his UK performances were affected.

I fail to see what is different about 2013 (the year he became World Champion) to 2015 as nothing has changed.

He has been a superb advert for the Sport and a golden boy in terms of trying to gain interest in our great sport.

However whilst i wish him all the luck in his bid to regain the World title i feel slightly let down as a Wolverhampton supporter.

Not just you view . I agree with you 100 % . Hate the way we are used and then when they leave they somehow hate the system that has made them .

Uk speedway needs him but now he turns his back on it .

Orion agrees with me 100% !!!

Not sure you have ever said that before. I better go and lie down

Maybe we are finally on the same wavelength

Agree with what's been said so far on this thread. Historically however, riders who opt out of the EL so as they can "concentrate their efforts on the GP" soon come back pretty quickly normally saying the EL "keeps them sharp".

Good luck to Tai, I hope this decision brings him the world crown again.

How long til he moans at the GP's saying he ain't had enough meetings & is rusty!!!!!

Bet u any money that's one of his quotes in 2015!!

Aussie prat!!!!!!

Most of you are Deluded, top and bottom of it he has stuck his two throttle fingers up to his adoring fans in his own country,he'll be riding where the money is for sure.Next seasons Elite league will be easier than ever to manage for the top riders.Disgracefull

Fortunately, British speedway is bigger than Tai Woffinden - as others who in the past have made similar moves have found out. It won't grind to a halt because he's gone.

some proper crazy comments here! to be expected though, so you think tai should ride here forever simply because he started out here? turn down far more money to stay here? seriously??? come on, have a little word with yourselves before making utter ridiculous comments

good luck tai, chase the rainbow and get every penny you can until its over

I'm sure the modern day Tai is very different to the 16yo version, but hearing him at that age telling others he was a "pommie" because "that's where the cash is at" has stuck with me. Never really taken to him and didn't feel at all British when he won his world title, quite the opposite. It does make you question the EL but if he doesn't want to be here then tough, no doubt he'll be welcomed back without question though, whenever he decides he wants back. Shame.

It's the statement that annoys me. He blames it on the travelling yet he will still be flying to Poland, Sweden and UK. If it was because of travelling he would have dropped Sweden like he did when he won the world title in 2013. He has chose to drop UK because of money end of.

Why would he ride in Sweden for Vetlanda on a Tuesday and fly to the UK when he now has a house in Vetlanda ?

He's best mates with Hancock isn't he so a bad influence when it comes to racing here?

Bet Greg is tired of flying in and out of the UK as well !!

Kasprzak, Hampel, Pedersen, Holder, Crump, Gollob, Kolodiej, Wigg, Smith, Cox, Ermolenko, Meidzinski, Zagar, Sayfutdinov, Holta ...... Kildemand, Iversen, Janowski, Bjarne, Pawlicki, ,........

The list can go on and on as to who has taken time out from Britain due to the travelling caused by various race nights

It does make you think that as a number of riders have said that if there would be less meetings Britain decides to raise its points limit to fit in the said riders who have asked to ride on one fixed race night.

I wish Tai well in his campaign to win the title back and understand his feelings fully. Let's face it he even made a one hour programme this season to highlight the problem yet nothing changes and something had to give.

Looking forward to the opening GP in Warsaw where I will be there backing Tai in his bid

Wolves fans totally understand his decision.

It's the same decision Freddie Lindgren made last year and Sam Ermolenko made as far back as 1996.

It's just the jealous mob from mostly other teams that pipe up.

I'm quite sure, from reading this thread, they've all only ever worked for one company and never moved on if a job paid better elsewhere.

How the hell do you know whether people on this thread have only ever worked for one company or not and whether they would move on or not if offered I am not a wolves fan I am a Speedway fan and I think Tai has made a big mistake as far as his popularity with a lot of fans will now suffer.. As far as I am concerned he needed BL racing to bring on his world championship aspirations and now he has pulled the mat from under an awful lot of fans in the uk not the true meaning of a World Champion If he wins the WC again I shan,t be jumping through hoops to go and see it

First and foremost Tai is a self employed businessman who has to make a profit from his business speedway, where he decides to ply his trade (Poland & Sweden) is entirely up to him. He was a fantastic world champion and promoted the sport at every opportunity he possibly could. As we all know any sportsman's career is a short one and they have to maximize their income at time when they at the top. How many people criticize footballers or F1 drivers when they move away from the UK?, for more cash or tax reasons. The problem is as I see it is that in Poland the sport is run as a play thing for wealthy businessmen who are prepared to throw money at their team regardless cost for their own prestige, just as major league football in the UK is , In Sweden as I understand it is run on a nonprofit making club system, neither way will work in the UK at the present time, do we want all the crowd trouble and segregation as in Poland, I think not.

It is hard for me to see the sport that I loved since I was 6 yrs old, in GB served up as second class but our time will come again, soon. Good luck to Tai in 2015

Not a great advert for Elite League Speedway with the hope that with a reduced fixture list would attract more of the top boys back, and yet the home boy turns his back on the League.

Then again the no one can say the Promotions were not warned. I wonder what other riders will go missing.

Always thought he used the system.

UK had few top riders, Aussies loads so he became a Brit.

He used a Fastrack system before the BSPA thought of it.

Now cashing in.

BTW none of the above is a criticism of the lad. He saw an opportunity and took it and has to look out for himself.

I have no issue with Tai missing the UK next season and focusing his efforts on other leagues and regaining the world championship. Good luck to him! I just wished he'd been honest and said I am trying to maximise my earnings as speedway is a short career so am not going to ride in the UK as I earn more money elsewhere.

As for riding in the british championships, I don't really mind either way but I will be cheering for Chris Harris or Scott Nicholls who both remain in the UK league (which is just my choice!)
