Guest
I think there was a 40 year-plus rider who rode at Scunthorpe. Could that have been Tony Atkin in a match there?
Ben91
Tony Atkin is 48 I believe and has recently said he wants to carry on for another two years.
Guest
Tony Atkin is 48 I believe and has recently said he wants to carry on for another two years. He'll still be a little short of breaking the retirement ages of Keith Harvey, Wal Morton and Geoff Pymar who were into their early fifties before retiring. But all good wishes to Tony Atkin - keep at it!
Islander15
Yes Atkin is the oldest. The rider I think you're referring to gustix (as you commented on another thread when he was mentioned) is Jon Armstrong
arnieg
There have been older riders in previous seasons, notably Alex Gilroy, who was 60 when he rode for Ashfield in 2000. Plenty of veteran riders have contributed to the Conference/National League such as Malcolm Holloway and Buzz Burrows, but I would go for Rob Hollingworth who was 50 in his final season (2005) as the most noteworthy. SCB
Tony Atkin is 48 I believe and has recently said he wants to carry on for another two years. To think when Tim Stone signed Tony for the 2003 season we all questioned if he'd gone mad as he was old and not one for the future. 12 season on he plans to continue riding! Tsunami
Talking about the oldest, would that not be Roy Dickson about 10 years ago riding for Somerset, when they were in the CL. He was about 62 in his first ever team. Edited November 18, 2014 by Tsunami
Parsloes 1928 nearly
The oldest debutant in the third tier might well have been Ron Jones riding for Wimbledon in 2003? He was 46 years of age

He's always seemed to be a veteran, well for as long as I can remember at least! Can't see him having any issues carrying on for a couple more seasons either as long as he steers clear of injury! Countershaftcounter
Have watched TA many times over the years the last time I saw him was two seasons ago at the IOW. He was having his are regularly handed to him by 17/17/18 year olds. To all those who say he passes on invaluable knowledge to youngsters ... He stayed on his own and buggered off ASAP. Sad to see but even then he was past it Never mind eh. An old boys ego trip can stop a youngster getting a place
molly1
Ray Dickson was a debutaunt in 2000 a month before his 50th birthday and retired 2001 at 51 & 4 months then managed Somerset 2002 & 3 in the Premier league.
