screm
Double Redcar Bears Rider of the Year Hugh Skidmore will be back at South Tees Motorsports Park next season. The popular Australian has become the second rider to agree terms with the Ecco Finishing Bears for the 2015 Premier League season. He joins South Tees Silver Helmet winner Jan Graversen, also a member of the 2014 septet in being a confirmed member of next season’s team. Skidmore, 24, from Crofts Harbour, joined the club on loan from Sheffield Tigers for the 2013 campaign and has been voted Bear of the Year in each of his two seasons on Teesside. After being presented with his 2014 award he was non-committal on his future plans, admitting: “I’m not quite sure what I’m going to do next year. I’ve got to sit down and see what offers come in and see what’s best for me, and go from there.” However, promoter Brian Havelock was confident of landing him for a third term and has confirmed he has got his man. “It’s good news,” said Havelock. “He’s done well for us over the past two years and there’s more to come from him.” Havelock will now press ahead with getting his remaining five places filled, although with at least one club reported to be paying big money to land their targets, he says the task is not as straightforward this winter. “I think some riders have caught wind of the money that’s being offered,” he said, “and their ears will prick up at that. “It’s the silly season at the moment but hopefully things will start coming together now.” One rider who definitely won’t be back next year is Carl Wilkinson. The former British Finalist, who was brought in to replace Gary Havelock following the 1992 world champion’s career-ending crash in 2012, has returned to parent club Scunthorpe.
