mikebv
F1 is mobile advertising build boards for major companies, nothing more, nothing less.. A Global demographic is their target market and they do a great job in connecting with it... Speedway has no comparison whatsoever... 'Use Eric's Garage on the High St.' is the average speedway advert.... Speedway is a very tiny minority sport with participants who deserve a much wider recognition (and re-numeration) for their talent... In the main it doesn't happen because those who run it cannot see the potential of a joined up, collective, national, one voice, marketing campaign.. And on we go, with the ever decreasing circle....

I think that speedway's problems are too deep rooted too be solved by a bit of renumbering

Isn't that what they've tried in the GPs - giving riders their own numbers? Not sure its made any difference to be honest!

You are missing the point.... Look at the global companies all over the cars, the race suits, Rolex, Microsoft, Shell, etc... At best these days, on a Speedway bike or race suit is Jim's Autos, or Dave and Karen on bend 1!! The only substantial sponsor in Speedway these days is Monster.. SteveLyric2
By all means compare F1 with the SGPs as they are both 'global', but I don't see any relevance in comparing any EL or PL team in the same way or even British Speedway as a whole!!! Club promoters should always be looking for locally based companies ideally with a product/service that is available nationally.
theknow 2
Yet F1 manages to attract the crowds while speedway manages to drive them away! F1 is a great sport and attracts fans and sponsors for this reason. This is because speedway has no commercial market for companies large or small. Because of the small fan base and the type of person who does attend they are not really in a position to buy the products the sponsors sell. If you put 20/50/100k into speedway what will your return be ? No where near the outlay. Most do it as they like speedway and it does improve brand awareness but not really sales i am afraid. Speedway will never draw large Multi National Sponsors to it. Look at the list of the SGP and see how many stay around for long ???? From what i believe even Monster dont put a lot of Money through the door. Speedway is pretty much the low end of Motorsport and to even try and compare it with the likes of F1 is pretty silly.
