Doubt sarge will be back no he signed for Glasgow, would be an awful lot of travelling

Sheffield to Glasgow on a Sunday is not the most onerous of journeys. Especially as meetings will be over by 5-6pm, he'll be back home and in bed by 10pm! I'm sure he'll cope - imagine eh should ever become a full time top speedway rider having to ride in Sweden, Poland and UK?!

So Ritchings and Shuttleworth on board and I'd have thought Crang and Knuckey are likely. It'll be interesting to see which way Coventry go after that to complete the team.

Surely they're gonna keep Sarj as he's in the EL team and I would have thought keeping Oli G makes sense seeing as he's an asset but the averages wouldn't allow him to. However Crang, Knuckey and Sarj added takes the team over the limit even with x2 3.00 men!

I wouldn't bother about getting Knuckey back. The Storm is a breeding ground for future Bees. Lets be realistic, 2 season of NL racing and Knuckey doesn't look like being a rider who will be racing for the Bees any time. Where as Sarj is and Crang could (should?) be racing for the Bees in the next few season depending no how the draft works.

I'm still confused as to why we sign another EL teams asset as our first signing. Another EL teams asset who once he gets out there with 3 other riders may have totally lost it after such a nasty injury.

I know where you're coming from but the NL won't produce 7 (or even 4 unless you're extremely lucky) EL riders in any given year or two. You'll need to have good solid NL level riders to 'do a job'. Knuckey improved a lot in the 2nd half of last year and in a weaker league a full season of that form will see him put a fair bit on his average. The NL is about finding the Sarj/Ollie type rider. At face value you'd think that Sarj is a no-brainer but he's got PL and EL commitments so availability may be taken in to account. And you'll get used to losing the top end rider as they move on - it's what the NL is meant to do for a young rider's career. ;)

Which makes the folly of signing a 5 point rider that another EL club owns even more silly! I get you have to lose top riders - in fact I agree with it but I don't get letting top riders you cna fit in go to keep a rider at the bottom end who isn't going to amount to EL level and a loaned rider.

Yeah, point taken. But if, and it is an if as I don't know, Sarj and Ollie don't ride NL next season you'll still need to put out a competitive team. And that means finding the right rider on the right average to provide immediate success for the NL team. Rob and Darryl tick that box.

The benefit to the EL team is the continued progress of Sarj and Ollie where ever that may be in 2015. If neither had a PL place then you'd think start them in the NL and go top heavy (this would mean no Crang though) - accepting that losing them to the PL may happen during the season. If it's considered best by the riders/club that they (JS/OG) now move on to be placed with PL clubs (and Bees for Sarj again) then attention should shift to Crang and naming him in your own NL team rather than the averages squeezing him out.

He should become a NL heat leader and possibly be in the frame for PL guest bookings or injury cover as the season (2015) progresses. 2016 could (should) see Garrity in the 1-5 and Sarj/Ollie at reserve with Crang knocking on the door for place in the draft (likely away from Bees for a year). 2017 you hope Sarj/Ollie has progressed enough to move in to the 1-5 and the other at reserve with Crang. As for the NL team; by 2016 you hope you've identified at least one other young rider which should keep the conveyor belt moving.

Any club that has two teams, and for the record I envy Cov fans having both EL and NL to support (massive thumbs up to Horton for this), has to balance up making the NL team a success in any given year to keep the punters coming through the gate to fund the process and finding/signing riders with a view to eventually joining the EL team. And the club and fans will have to accept that not many will progress to EL standard and there will be times that your riders go out on loan and loanees come in.
