Gazc
I don't think there can be much question that he deserves a Testimonial. He's certainly done 8 seasons for Edinburgh and 2 on loan from Edinburgh to Glasgow, and another part-season as well. So what's the complaint? I am sure both sets off fans of the Scottish speedway divide will attend in numbers very likeable person and has been a good servant to the sport North off the border. He is equally liked by both us & the Monarchs fans just a shame neither the Scottish clubs could fit Theo in this season but who know's what will unfold once the season starts hopefully he will get a spot sooner rather than later hope Theo gets the turn out he deserves .
yoda
Another joke testimonial. 10 years? He missed 2 seasons! They give our testimonials like they're going out of fashion these days! Adrian Miedzinski will have one next season as its 10 years since he first signed for Swindon!!! Totally agree think testimonials are getting a joke , 10 years at one club is fine but at the end of the day it's 10 years in a job that your getting paid to do. I've been with the same company I work for , for 18years big deal I don't expect a testimonial after been there 10 years

He's certainly done 8 seasons for Edinburgh and 2 on loan from Edinburgh to Glasgow, and another part-season as well. So what's the complaint? When has he done 10 consecutive seasons? Tony Atkin was turned down in 2004 because he didn't ride in 1997 because nobody offered him a team place so he had not done 10 consecutive seasons. But Tony had only ever put British Speedway first and was British. Far better to give a testimonial to a Dutchman who put longtrack first and made the choice to miss 2 seasons! Cj69
So what if he gets a Testimonial? You wont be spending money to attend it. Just like I wont attend most that have no impact on me at all. Will i be there yes, cause i choose to support a rider i enjoyed watching over many years.

So what Tony Atkin didn't get one in the same circumstances. Testimonials are meant for 10 years at one clubs. Not 5 seasons at a club, a few season long strints at a few other clubs, 2 years out, a year at another club, 2 year back at the original club, 2 at one of your previous clubs. Thats hardly loyalty is it?

Very precious these Moanarchs fans
Cj69
I couldn't care if Tony Atkin deserved one, I wouldn't have went even if he did. Theo Piper is getting one and I will be there. Fans will attend if they want to, no matter if he rode for them once, twice or guested for their team. Does there really need to be a defined period before allowed one? Might devalue it for you but not others.

Adrian Miedzinski will have one next season as its 10 years since he first signed for Swindon!!! Frede Schott got one for considerably fewer seasons. Testimonials are personal choice, support it if you agree otherwise ..... Does there really need to be a defined period before allowed one? Supposedly there is one, though liberally applied by the sports' largely discredited governing body.

Theo has on many occasions missed Long track meetings for edinburgh SCB. In general i agree that testimonials in all sports are over used.the rules in speedway seemed to change when ppl understood that building teams using averages was going to make the likes of bernie leigh, martin ashby and other long term riders with one club unlikely. A bit of flexibility in the case of Paul Atkins wouldnt have gone amiss while AM is a complete piss take. Any other non-Monarchs supporters take of their club-tinted glasses and realise this is not good news for our sport? The most successful team in recent years finding difficulty in getting a sponsor. Speedway is a small beer sport so shocking it is not. Edited February 7, 2015 by Dekker

Thats hardly loyalty is it? You are talking rubbish. It's almost impossible nowadays to do 10 years at one club due to points limits. I would not expect you to have detailed knowledge of Pijper's career but the truth is he has NEVER chosen to be away from Edinburgh, other than after 2006 when he decided to try to move up to the Elite League. When that didn't work out, he was stranded between leagues on an average which made it awkward to return to PL. He only got back in because his average was reassessed after 2010 to a generously low figure. Edinburgh already had their team at that point so he went to Glasgow. His first loyalty is to his family, so he will ride and do his best for whoever offers him a job. He was perfectly happy at Glasgow, of course, but the fact is the only years he hasn't ridden for Edinburgh were years when he wasn't offered a place. Theo first & foremost is an Edinburgh man but when he rode for us through the West he loved it and when the fan's could see the level off commitment and pride Theo took riding for the stripes accepted him as one off there own so for that reason I and most off the Glasgow supporters will be joining our Edinburgh rivals in showing support to a rider that fully deserves both our support. Our choice to do so wether the detractors think it is right or not and for that reason Theo will enjoy a huge turn out on the night and as far as we are concerned IT IS FULLY DESERVED.

dontforgetthefueltapsbruv
i have no idea.couldnt resist! wink FWIW I think the accepted criteria is 10 years on 1 clubs books with any year away included so long as there has been no transfer request. Pjiper probably qualifies under that and as many have said its down to personal choice who attends. Whether the criteria should be stricter is a different matter. Personally Id say yes. A testimonial should be an exceptional 'honour' rather than the norm as it is becoming.

He has been 14 years an Edinburgh rider, has never asked for a transfer, has accepted a place in the side every time he has been offered one and has always done everything possible to race in every fixture even if he had other commitments round about. Sometimes Testimonials are awarded to sweeten a rider's deal for a particular season, but Theo isn't in the Edinburgh team this year. So why would Edinburgh give him a Testimonial, except that it is the right thing to do?
