Somerset 2015

Recommended Posts

Very impressive team on paper from Somerset. Year on year these guys manage to get a decent side together. Good set up, track and a management. That will always go in the rebels favour when signing riders!

Olly Allen despite being released by the Rebels States exactly that. Says 2014 season was one of his happiest.

Post from Steve Whitehead, promotor, on the comets forum;

"interesting and annoying that Somerset have declared a team that adds up to 44.45. They were at the same AGM we were when we were told new visa riders from Aus would have to come in on 7 average as that is the criteria agreed with UKBA. New criteria is in process of getting agreed but could take months / years to agree. So why do they think that can ignore rules again

The got Kurtz on a too low average last year ( should have been a 7 due to riding in Denmark previous year) but are at it again.

This time though it could damage our whole sport due to UKBA current close monitoring"

Wonder if we'll hear more about this from the other promotions soon!

VERY interesting reading on the UNOFFICIAL COMETS WEB SITE (run by the workington promotion. click on unofficial site . scroll down to .. premier league speedway. and read steves comments . .. steve IS one of the promoters at workington .as i said.. read it and weep somerset fans . your season is in turmoil already..

perhaps he should concentrate on his own affairs, rather than poking his nose in here.... as if he had been he just might been able to sign the rider himself... but there again maybe not

If correct, and other Promotions have based their 2015 team plans on 7.00 for non EU newcomers requiring visas, then the BSPA will be obliged to enforce the higher start GSA within the 42.5 limit.

However if the UKBA were to subsequently agree to a reduced figure of 5.00 before the season starts, this will present the BSPA with a dilemma:-

Do they reduce the proposed non EU newcomers to 5.00 immediately or defer the reduction until 2016 ?

It would appear that other teams have not based team building on the 7.00 ave, as both Arthur Sissis & Jake Allen have been brought in by their respective teams on 5.00 averages, something which the snipers on here have conveniently glossed over

Sissis apparently has dual nationality (Greek ?) and his EU citizenship will explain why he can enter on 5.00.

Berwick appear to be under the same misapprehension as Somerset regarding Jake Allen's starting GSA being 5 instead of 7, though they have yet to announce their full team.

Note you do not question the veracity of Steve Whitehead's statement regarding the information provided to all Promoters at the BSPA AGM, including those present from Somerset

It all boils down to all promoters trying to bend, massage and in some cases even strangle the rules to their own advantage. Its basically a culture of 'lets give it a go and hope we can sneak it through'. The rule bending culture is regrettably more prevalent in some clubs than playing the game fairly. The 'win at any cost' ethos is unfortunately driven by the lure of 'filthy lucre'. Or is that merely keeping solvent.

Sounds to me like the UKBA are unlikely to change their mind.

I think the thing is Somerset have announced a team based upon a rider having a 5.00 average when they clearly knew he would be on a 7.00.

That's not cheating or rule bending, its stupidity. For all those saying Somerset have built an excellent team and all credit to the promotion, I am sure anyone can build such a team by ignoring the rules of the sport.

To me, Kurtz's 5.00 average last season could be seen as correct. Holder's 5.00 most certainly is not.

Hmmmm these revelations put a different complexion on things. Would be nice to hear they other side of the story, and ultimately a statement from the governing body to clear the matter up one way or the other.

(:D)
