Some really good races over the two days. Harold Simon's last ( by a street) to first on the last bend, passing the last two World Champions in the process in heat 35 being the best. As for Ove Ledstrom the kid was just stunning. You kept hoping he would miss the start to see his passes. A pity he had the horrendous crash on Saturday; sadly his fault, so to ride so superbly on Sunday after that was incredible.

Good to see Russia being stretched for once and being given some serious competition.

I would love to see that heat 35 :t:

Austria was soooo close, again! It's such a pity that Simon got excluded on day 1 when he came second but crossed the innerline, otherwise both Russia and Austria ended on equal points. Heat 35 was fantastic! Dima gated with Zorn following, then Simon overtook his countrymen before overtaking both Russians in the last corner, fantastic stuff, the crowd loved it.

As Mr Ore said, the young Ledstrom was amazing! 17 years old and not afraid, he'll be a big one in the future. Looking forward to see him again on friday in Assen when he will be defending his Roelof Thijs Bokaal title. I was also very impressed by Hans Weber, especially on day 2 when he was challenging the Russian boys in heat 40!

Having never been to an ice meeting, I was impressed and particularly the way the Austrians rode. The crowd were enthusiastic if in some case a few were a little the worse for wear re the beer but Berlin did a great presentation and the riders gave a good showing. If as a traditional speedway fan you have never been, give it a go you will be surprised. Pity I cannot make Assen but I'll certain do more meetings next year. Anyone interested in the Berlin meeting watch Motors Tv this thursday. Anyone going to Berlin next year, spend the money and go for the main stand or first bend near the entrance. Having stood on Saturday on theback straight i would not recommend it.

In my haste to post it was Khomitsevitch and not Ivanov who Simon took on the last gend in heat 35 but still a class act to beat from behind. As you said ( and this time it was Danil Ivanov) Hans Weber also performed brilliantly with his dive between and around the Russians. Makes the future look a little more promising for the sport.

Not disputing your impressions but we deliberately did the back straight both days and although it was not very comfortable near the entrance we found by moving along we had plenty of space at the ends and good views of the racing. We'd fallen out with the 4th bend where the view was excelent but was very crushed last time and a the banks were slipping under the numbers there. Personal choice but I wonder if it was the crowding near the entry which created the problems for you.

Simon was disqualified for crossing the inside line of the track by one of the worst referees in the game.Someone who is only allowed to ref div 2 speedway in his own country.Simon said it is hard to ride on the inside at Berlin as there is only about 5cm until the concrete and in Moscow riders were about a metre inside the line and not disqualified. This cost Austria the gold medal

Have to say I saw a photo from Moscow and it was diabolical how far inside the blue line the riders were, but as Conkers will confer we have seen evidence that it can also happen at Berlin.Simon says though that he inspected the track and saw no marks made by his spikes inside the line....

Scandal, Wojaczek, no news there.

Having been on the first bend for most of the meetings in Berlin, it became apparent how the blue line on the first turn got wider after each track prep. The bloke with the paint appeared to create a new line each time, and by the time I got on to the centre for the last three heats the blue line was about 8 inches wide. The line also started to fade as the meeting went on, and it became harder to see it, so I can sympathise with riders accused of crossing the line as if they can't see it clearly. I'm watching the Motors TV Coverage as I write this, and the blue line is hard to see.

On the plus side, the racing was good, and I was particularly impressed with Ledstrom who gets better every time I see him ride.

One down side was that Iris123 wasn't there to enjoy the racing. Been too long since we last had a drink Doug!

I'm off to Assen in the Morning so if you are going and you see me please say hello. I'm the 'tog in the blue coat and glasses.
