Midland Red
....because she is one of a number of sports personalities that run a lot of marathons and charity fun runs - helping to raise money for good causes!! And she did look very presentable - not only on TV but also in several post-event photos with Rory McIlroy, Jake Humphrey, Jo Pavey amongst others - as long as I'm allowed to express that opinion?! Not sure she qualifies as a "Sports Personality" Her appearance is a matter of taste - can't say I find her very attractive As far as being good at her job (pits reporter) I think she has, if anything, got worse than I remember her to be originally - her standard of questioning is puerile and has not improved with experience, and her interviewing of the younger foreign riders who have less of a grasp of English is usually a total embarrassment The reappearance of Mrs Nicholls has really shown her up! As far as the Ched Evans case is concerned, I really hope he is found to be the recipient of a miscarriage of justice, for his sake and that of his family Then, it would be interesting to hear what Charlie, and that athlete woman, have to say for themselves

YerRopes
Regardless of Ms Webster's talent or otherwise I fully support her (and others) stand on this matter... Ched Evans is a convicted rapist and there is no way I would want such a person representing my club, what signal does that send to the young of this country, especially when Sheffield United supporters have been singing 'he can rape who he wants'... I have no problem with him becoming a 'Painter and Decorator' or something similar however... Edited to add, that I wouldn't want him painting my house, but no doubt the supporters of Mr Evans on here would be more than happy to leave him alone with their partners/wives etc... Yeah right... Wouldn't he be as much as a danger to the public (if he is one.?? doing those less glamorous jobs.
YerRopes
I would like to say it 'cracks me up too' Sid, but it doesn't... Big difference fans cheering on and idolising a rapist, especially with their abhorrent chants as compared to someone doing a job that normal punters have to do... Each to their own I guess...

I would say a rapist would more of a danger as a bin man painter etc etc than a footie player . Much more important than a couple of football songs . fatface
If what you say is correct then the man should never work again end of,what is the difference between being a footballer and being a painter? When you are footballer or indeed any professional sportsperson you represent a community, that comes with the territory. Clubs are only too happy to reflect their community values because there is financial gain to be had. With this comes a reponsibility to reflect community values and ethics. Most communities don't think a convicted rapist is a good reflection of their community values. I agree with them.

The man has paid his dues and served his punishment, what more do you want??

SCB
do we not rehabilitate offenders in this country these days?? The man has paid his dues and served his punishment, what more do you want?? This is my issue. If the legal bods of this country want to bring in laws that prevent people doing certain jobs and then the courts want to, when sentencing people say they cannot return to that job then fine (well it's not as I think it's barmy) as everyone would be the say. But to pick out one man, all because (as it seems to me) one woman associated with his potential employer went off on one and had a media profile seems totally unfair to me. If I was in his shoes and someone in the office here went off on one like Charlie has done then nobody would take any notice of her as, AFAIK, I don't work with anyone with media contacts. He's lost out because of a militant woman and that, just isn't fair. Are there not laws that say you cannot treat an ex-offender differently? Some sort of rehabilitation act? How does this tie in with that?

SCB
It wasn't just Charlie. It was Jessica Ennis too. Plus several club sponsors. Only after she started her campaign. Without her and the furore caused in the press I doubt any of the sponsors would have felt the need to distance themselves.

And Jessica Ennis is higher profile than Charlie Webster (both at the club and nationally). It's certainly not her and her alone.
