Starman2006
Not at all the crowns case was pretty clear that in that hotel room was had no control of what she was doing ..so if that was the case one can't be guilty and the other not ... you can't have it both ways . if she was out her head as the crown say that it matters not if you were invited or not it's still rape . As we have seen on this forum it's very easy to argue with the conviction . I take it you me SHE? If she was in a complete non state to argue then he deserves to have the book thrown at him. On the flip side, if she knew what she was doing then she should take the rap and he should be cleared for undoubtedly giving him the come on. On the same token, if she claims, to the court she didn't know what she was doing, then what would you say ? Its called PROOF. My god, have things changed in the last 25 years.. scribbler
From what I gather - the guy found innocent took her to the room and Evans arrived later. His presence was not expected. I think that all the info was in a previous post...
Jonny the spud
I just find it depressing that the club, certain sections of the press and quite a few people on here are sticking up for a convicted rapist. I mean, what the absolute f**k. He was convicted on his own admission of events as she wasn't in a position to describe it. He admitted it !! If he was a teacher, a social worker or in any position of responsibility he'd lose his job and have to change professions, but because of the hero worship soccer demands he's feted as the victim . for those standing up for him, I feel sorry for you . would you feel the same if he was your childs teacher / mentor / lecturer etc ?

And does it not worry you that your son (or yourself) could go out, have sex with someone, she could "not remember it" and he (or you) are then branded a rapist? She hasn't proved anything, which is one of the basic of getting someone convicted of a crime. Rape, you are guilty, you have to prove your innocent. Thats messed up. She was not drunk enough to "not remember", but by "not remembering" he becomes a rapist. It's too easy to be a rapist these days is someone with a idioted up head or a vendetta decides to get you. Anyway, the issue here is if the public should be allowed to decide who does or does not do a job once released from prison. Why shouldn't Evans go back to him job? As I see it, nobody has yet given a good reason. It's not like in his job as a footballer, on a pitch with 22 other men being watched by thousands of others he's a risk to anyone is he? In fact thats about as safe as a job as it gets, he's being watched by 1000s of people! Edited November 16, 2014 by SCB

A Lot of people stuck up for him because they don't think there enough to convict him of rape it's not hard to follow ...Don't feel sorry for me as I will never have a problem standing up to what I feel it's an injustice . If you feel he is Guilty and reckon he should not play football again that is fair enough but try to respect others who don't feel the same way
Jonny the spud
But it was down to the jury to decide, not a lot of people. and bearing in mind the evidence was his own admission I can't see how he can be defended. He was in a taxi heading in the opposite direction when he recieved a text from his mate who was in the hotel with her. He asked the driver to turn around and go to the hotel, he blagged a key from the receptionist, after having sex with the girl who was in no position to refuse, he then left by a back exit so he wasn't recognised ......... all his own admission in court. not really a vendetta eh ?

She only went to the Police in the first case about her lost handbag. After discussions as to what happened, it was the Police who told her she had been raped. No frame up in this case. Just because a jury finds someone guilty does not mean they have done it . History is full of people who have found guilty and have not done the crime and even more who have got away with stuff who were guilty . It's up in the air if was in no position to refuse how do you judge that ? ...the expert witness on the effect of drink said that she had only drunk 2 and half times over the drink drive limit and said it's unlikely that she would had suffer the memory loss she claims . Also if she was in no position to say no as you claim how come Mcdonald was found not guilty ? You put some good point across on why Evans might be guilty but there are plenty to question that . Was there reasonable doubt ? . I would say there was plenty .

The White Knight
Offer for Evans to train at Sheffield Utd. has been withdrawn. I don't like Evans, or what he did (if he did it). However, whatever happened to rehabilitation? He has (possibly) 'done the Crime' and has also 'done the time' for it Guilty or not. He was found Guilty by a Jury of his Peers - but - Juries have been wrong before. He has always protested his innocence.

Should his conviction be quashed on the basis that he is protesting his innocence ?

Should his conviction be quashed on the basis that he is protesting his innocence ? No it most certainly shouldn't. In the case of Evans though, there is still an Appeal against his guilt going through the Courts. They also said on the News at one point that there were some oddities about the Case. Until ALL of the Legal avenues are completed - I will reserve my judgement.

Yet here we have a football club who, somewhat belatedly, have listened to the fans (over 150,000 remember) and yet the opposite stance is taken and they are berated by some. Fickle? I prefer unbelievable. Well done United, in accepting the views of their fans, and taking the correct decision. The more sceptical may suggest it may have been a financial consideration which caused this to happen but they should still not be admonished for ultimately doing the right thing. Deal with that through a different thread. We are not talking about stealing a bar of chocolate here either; we are dealing with a sexual offence. I deliberately have not used the word "serious" as EVERY case of rape is serious; although a minority of posters seem to feel the need to put a weighting on it. And back to the subject matter of this thread if a female celebrity with a speedway interest is able to use her "notoriety" and efforts to see this through again she should not be knocked for it. This simply shows that whatever the anti-Charlie brigade may think, she has the talents and determination of her views to see serious matters through. She is not the airhead some would wish her to be. Maybe she has to dumb down to the level of her audience. She was a victim of a sexual assault so knows what she is talking about and has had the bottle to declare this in public, she is a huge United fan yet is prepared to stand up for what is right rather than following some misguided loyalty and through her position has managed to speed this through and keep it in the public domain. Well done United and well done Charlie. Hopefully the morons who sent the threats to Jess Ennis-Hill; another true Blade who also put morality above devotion, will be dealt with appropriately or should someone threatening to rape a national sporting hero, after having more than enough time to consider their actions also be given a huge pat on the back? I am not some raving right wing nutter either and agree that there have been some terrible miscarriages of justice and I would never bring back the death penalty. And to continue with the hypocrisy shown in this thread it is quite remarkable how many who have looked to defend or support Evans went into overdrive about what should happen to Jerran Hart when he was accused of beating up a squaddie. No forgiveness there. Yet a sexual attack on a female…………………………….

That's because an appeal is not proceeding. He doesn't even have permission to appeal at this stage. He has twice applied for permission to appeal and both times his application was refused because the grounds of appeal were inadequate. There are plenty of people in prison waiting for appeals to be heard (including the two men convicted of killing Lee Rigby) but unless and until their convictions are overturned by the Court of Appeal , they stand all stand and guilty men.
