Edinburgh V Somerset (plpo Final - 2nd Leg) 25/10/14 @7.00pm

Recommended Posts

Yes Arson Best rider in the league even though his average has dropped by 1.2 due to all his bonus points with Sam and Sedgy. Simon Stead top of the averages it seems and top man (Aye right)

Just don't tell Rosco cause he can recognize form remember.

To be honest Cookie dipped a little by his high standards mid Summer but is back to his imperious bes again now.

No better man to have in the big heats with pressure on, though Smiler Sam outstanding riding pillion

Rebels management got it right based on form, if the riders don't turn up you have had it. Three points more over the two legs from our No1 guests would have sealed the deal. Summers should be especially ashamed he only beat Fox all night. No complaints though just galling that it has now happened twice to us in three years. On the plus side two trophies in the cabinet again , second in the table when most experts predicted us to struggle to get in the top six and also finished the season with the top team average.

Well done all the riders and management at the OTA on another great season.

Like i said got it wrong when it mattered

A dramatic night of speedway played out in front of a huge crowd.

That was speedway at its box office best.

I'm obviously delighted at my teams 2014 successes but I'd just like to acknowledge Big Martin (Rebel fan with big flag) that I (and a few friends) spoke with on Friday night at Somerset.

Martin came into the Armadale bar after the meeting to shake my hand and congratulate the Monarchs on their win.

Class act.

Great match from a neutral point of view agree with Blobby thought it was going Monarchs way early until Sam locked up on turn 2 in t/r race .The monarchs done well to miss Summers when he came off.As for ht 13 after the second rerun thought Cookie had lost it racing across to Morris big congrats to the Monarchs on the treble and the pairs pleased with our season also getting in the top six was a very good result.Looking forward to next season.

well averages dont lie Stead finished top and was picked ahead of Cook for the World team cup.

As good as Cook is Stead was better this season. Both practically unbeatable at home

I haven't seen the final figures but Cookie has knocked up a huge number of bonus points for a number 1 - more than one a match. Because he has been happy to let his partners Sedgy and Smiler take wins while he keeps the rabble behind.

Certainly can't say the same for Steady.

So with bonus, I would expect Cookie to be comfortably number 1 in the League.

But at the end of the day Monarchs have had the near perfect season because they have been a TEAM not a group of individuals. Every one of them has chipped in with points at critical times.

Can we be allowed to be smug all winter please?

From what I read, Heat 13 was the race than won/lost the League.

What exactly happened? Re-runs, fights, what exactly?

That and Starke getting passed by Foxy in heat 14.

Rebels management got it right based on form, if the riders don't turn up you have had it

Been a season or since the best of Summers has been seen at the dale.

The way you look at averages, they do lie. Cook pairs up with Sedgmen and Masters for many 5-1s and has 43 bonus points in the Speedway Star lists. Simon Stead has 4 bonus points. Averages with bonus are a much better basis for comparison for top riders who gain most of their bonus points in 5-1s, and the figures are Cook 10.34, Stead 9.70.

After a full season of racing, umpeen matches, what does it boil down to in the end?

One team got an extra 5 points with the T/R and another team got an extra 6. Ha! About time they were banned in playoffs.

That being said, Edinburgh topped the table so deserved the title regardless! Well done on a very successful season.

You could counter balance that one with the fact that Simon Stead was paired with riders like Sedgmen and Masters and the chances of getting bonus points are harder to get.

You could have a thread on its own discussing who has had the better season, Edinburgh fans will tell you Cookie, Sheffield fans Steady, end of the day both had great seasons and were for differing matters vital to their team.

Another ruling that needs ironing out. How far do you run into a race before you award it. IMO two laps is NOT sufficient. Lap 3-4 yes, lap two no.
