bigcatdiary
Last time anyone said that to me was at The Shay in about 1959. They were right that time. Looks like your memory is as good as your impressions of Horton, the shay shut in 1951 and didn't reopen until 1965.
Midland Red
I can't think of promoter who takes on board the punters' comments & moans as much as M Horton does. Getting back everyone's favourite track man and not signing Klindt are the latest examples. Why does he still have so many knockers on here?? Just Peter York to deal with now . . .
Gemini
Welcome back Terry! Great news and hopefully he will be able to work with the riders to get the track how they like it. That might be easier said than done because no doubt each rider has their own idea of how they like the track. Hans Andersen = slick? Chris Harris = more dirt & grippy? So we might have to go back to the Colin Pratt method 'It's the same for everyone - get on with it.'
Bees_Man
Taken from cet: So did we really talk to JK??? So from that interview we're not expecting our asset Pawlicki to end up riding in the uk for Poole?! Coventry have completed their line-up by bringing in a newcomer to British speedway as Polish rider Jakub Jamrog takes the final spot. Buildbase Bees promoter Mick Horton admits the signing of the 23-year-old is something of a gamble as Jamrog is largely unknown in this country, save for some appearances in Open meetings, including the Brandonapolis in 2013. On that occasion he emerged unscathed from a spectacular crash but also clocked the fastest winning time of the night with a victory over established international riders Bjarne Pedersen, Krzystzof Kasprzak and Scott Nicholls. Horton says Bees have been through a number of options for the position originally vacated by Cameron Woodward due to injury and then Lewis Bridger after an apparent bust-up over equipment. Riders such as Przemyslaw Pawlicki, Mads Korneliussen, Joonas Kylmakorpi and Vaclav Milik have all been contacted and ruled out for various reasons. Horton said: Weve left no stone unturned over this last place, weve spoken to many riders who arent coming back or cant do it, and weve now got to the point where we had to make a decision. Ive talked to people who have ridden with Jamrog, including Hans Andersen, Danny King, and also Scott Nicholls mechanic who has seen him ride, and they have all said he goes well in Europe. I accept its a risk and it does leave us some way below the points limit (Jamrogs assessed average is 5.50, over a point below the maximum Bees could build to) but having done our research and looked into what the lads been doing, we feel its a good option. Ive spoken to him over the weekend and he is very keen and determined to do well in the UK. Hes also well set up with equipment over here and a workshop, mechanic and van so it wasnt a difficult deal from that point of view. Weve got to give him a chance, hes under no illusions that if things dont work out we will obviously look to change it, but Gary Havelock has a good feeling about him, and I hope everyone gets behind him. The one rider we could have got, who I would have gone with, was Kylamkorpi but he just priced himself out of it. "I like Jonas, but I honestly think he thought we were backed into a corner and he could name his price. He was asking for a better package than Hans, and that just wasnt going to happen. Robert Lee
Looks like your memory is as good as your impressions of Horton, the shay shut in 1951 and didn't reopen until 1965. Ho hum. I don't have any impressions of Mick Horton, I've never met him, but as an outsider I think he's doing a good job at Coventry. My humble apologies for getting my dates mixed up from over half a century ago - it happens when you get old. Maybe it was Greenfield Stadium in Bradford in the late 50s, then Halifax through the late sixties. Unless someone on here knows better than the erudite Mr/Ms B C Diary.
SCB
Wouldn't be the first time Coventry Speedway spoke to all riders but not all rider had spoke to Coventry Speedway

mdmc82
Hortons statement doesn't really reassure. Confirms what some of us suspected, that he was a panic signing. I guess we will be able to get a better idea over next couple of weeks with the challenge meetings.

Long Eye
Fantastic name! Could be good if he rides an open meeting at Redcar with their presenter with the speech impediment: Widing in wed, Jakub Jam...
Tsunami
Could be good if he rides an open meeting at Redcar with their presenter with the speech impediment: Widing in wed, Jakub Jam... Especially if Witchie Worrell is also riding.

Could prove to be a masterstroke..

Woz01
Kylmakorpi saying "I haven't heard anything" is a response I'd give if I went for a job and not heard back, doesn't necessarily mean talks didn't previously take place during the winter months. Horton wouldve been crazy not to at least get in touch. Whether Kylmakorpi was asked or not it doesn't matter now. We have our side let's support it. TesarRacing
I am surprised that a few people have not heard of Jakub Jamrog prior to signing for Coventry. I seem to recall he was linked with at least 2 EL teams in 2013 if I remember correctly.
Sir Jasper
Would have preferred Kylmakorpi, thought his signing would cement us as a favourite for the league. Jamrog is a bit of an unknown, so I am uncertain as to how he will go this season.
Bee 26
First impressions at Swindon didn't look good but got to give the lad a few meetings to get dialled in. You never know he could turn out to be the signing of the season!
