Brandon
Also please keep off Andy William's version of 'May Each Day....' as we are leaving the stadium at the end of the night's racing. Love that. I can't leave until it's played
Jacques
Agree with you about World Cup meetings and G.P's. Is it still played in cinemas? I've not been for years but back then all I can remember is people pushing and shoving to get out before it was played at the end of the film. Also please keep off Andy William's version of 'May Each Day....' as we are leaving the stadium at the end of the night's racing. Love that. Totally agree Gemini. This has been a part of Coventry Speedway for as long as I can remember and it is also one of my favourite records. Also please keep off Andy William's version of 'May Each Day....' as we are leaving the stadium at the end of the night's racing. Love that. I can't leave until it's played I'd never heard it until I started going up to Brandon, love it too. A bit sentimental I know, but it just reminds me of the place and very good times and great memories . As for the national anthem, Im a patriot through and through, but if you are going to play,at least do it right. I don't see it necessary for every meeting either, I prefer to have it saved for the big occasions when I/we can belt it out
Midland Red
Whilst on the subject, what is the version of Flight of the Bumblebee now played at Brandon instead of the Harry James version which used to be played?
SCB
Also please keep off Andy William's version of 'May Each Day....' as we are leaving the stadium at the end of the night's racing. Love that. It's weird, never really thought about it. But just played it and it brought back memories As for the national anthem, eugh. It a really poor anthem, quite possibly one of the worst National anthems. It has a a poor tune and the words are even worse "God" save the "Queen". One doesn't exist and the other shouldn't. Of all the things that are great about Britain, the Queen is quite some way down the list. That said, anyone who chooses to (or not to) go to speedway based on them playing the national anthem is a bit potty.
naffer
Save the national anthem for the British final or the WTC. Andy Williams is sacrosanct though it's always been played as long as I can remember and that's far enough to about the mid sixties with my shorts ,snake belt and spangles . Watching booey Ron mountford Rick France Jim lightfoot etc Up the bees
Steve0
The Queen is one reason why Britain is great - the national anthem is the best and whenever it is played at a sporting event it makes me very proud to be British! What can be better than a Brit on the top step of the podium, the union flag flying and the national anthem playing - fantastic! Not saying this to be contrary as it is honestly my opinion and just trying to give a balanced view. Notice that I am not knocking differing opinions as we are all entitled to our views!
SpeedwayTShirts
Midland Red - We'd been using a special mixed electric guitar version of Flight Of The Bumblebee since 2011. I'd post a link to it but I hear you have to be careful what you post or like on the web these days as it can lead to all sorts. On a serious note we put a huge amount of time and thought into mastering all the riders jingles and incidental music in attempt to make Coventry's Presentation Unique and hopefully one of the better nights out at a speedway track in the UK. Hope all Bees Fans have a cracking year with a brilliant looking team. Look after our old man he's still thinking of coming most weeks 👍😉🚲💨🐝🏁 Edited February 21, 2015 by Chris BART Simpson

I think the majority are probably agreeing with that but the issue is should the National Anthem be played before our run of the mill league matches start? Sorry I'm apparently a cretin but I say 'No'. Save it for bigger occasions.
T.N.T.
Play the National Anthem ? Don't play the National Anthem ? Coventry have built a very attractive team for the forthcoming season and it's a shame Chris Simpson won't be there to add his music and jingles to the evening as he has always done a top class job at Brandon, Perry Barr and possibly the best music played at Cardiff. Remember the Land of Hope & Glory blaring out and the crowd raising the roof. The sport needs that sort of atmosphere. It's just a shame that with an attractive team about to start the season, the Stadium looks like it hasn't been maintained or painted since Rick Millers Testimonial and if anything needs changing at the stadium is tidying it up. Last season I walked around a very quiet meeting and it really needs tarting up. I'm sure a group of volunteers can be assembled, bring your own brushes and get some paint to make the Stadium on the back straight, corners etc at least look like it isn't from the set of Ashes to Ashes or Life On Mars. It may be lost to the sport in the next few years but let it go out looking good and your head held high rather than putting it out of it's misery.
Gemini
I doubt if Sandhu is too bothered what condition the stadium is in unfortunately and it probably suits him fine how it is now, although I still think it's one of the better speedway stadiums around in spite of the lack of maintenance or shiny paintwork. I'm sure there would be quite a few people who would volunteer to help tidy the place up but would they be allowed to do it? That is the question. T.N.T.
I'm sure if a group of 30-50 people were together and organised the back straight stand could be painted yellow and black, the terracing on the third and forth bend weeded and broken glass cleaned, posts painted and the same on turn one and two it would be appreciated. I am sure through the season you will get someone in that has never been before. They may be taking their children or maybe a businessman with some friends and first impressions count. Its all about atmosphere and presentation ..... something Chris Simpson did well and now Coventry have neither. They do have a good team and I have them as third behind Poole and Belle Vue

Seats covered in bird poo and having to sit where you think you are least likely to get pooed on.

Unfortunately the days are gone when a buch of volunteers could turn up anywhere and just clean up or paint. Any such project would be subject to all kinds of Health and Safety Regulations , training requirements , and the need for proper equipment ie ladders etc to be provided. There would have to be proper insurance liability provisions made, and someone such as Horton or Sandhu would have to take ultimate responsibility for any mishaps injuries. If you want to risk your neck on a motorcycle with no brakes that's OK but if you want to stand on a wooden box to do a bit of painting the Nanny State is there to protect you.
Gemini
Yes, I was wondering about health and safety regulations when I posted but I always believe what TNT writes. Perhaps I can just do a bit of weeding on the 3rd/4th bend and try to make sure I don't fall down the crumbling steps. What irritates me the most though is dog poo, which is presumably left by the Greyhounds or the resident stadium dog. Someone ought to be responsible for making sure it's all picked up......and I'm not volunteering for that as I do enough clearing up after my own two. speedybee
And the horrible mess that has gathered in the window frames of the grandstand overlooking the pits - an absolute health hazard waiting to happen. I brought this up with Horton at an open mic under the stand two years ago and he laughed at me :/
