Bspa Meeting...

BSPA:

This is what i would like.....

A shorter season, April to September.
Meetings that are slick (not track) ie kept going not dragged out!
Continuity of meetings, not long breaks between home meetings.
No TR rule.
Try to have a team not filled with guests due to double uppers/downers etc.
Keep things simple ...... even Team managers do not know some of the silly rules.

Predictably after reading The Speedway Star this week their is little chance of the sport turning the corner with self interest controlling and all pulling in different directions, according to Jon Cook all is well with little need for change, sorry but get real, you Sir are not paying good money to watch the product served up, not a patch on years gone bye.

So which comment is correct ? The Speedway Star comment or the following, Jon Cook commented: “It’s been fun and an honor to fill the role but after three years as Vice Chairman plus two before that on the Management Committee it’s time for someone else to do their stint. These are challenging times for the Sport as we’ve seen with the loss of two Elite teams and, therefore, this is a sensible time for me to concentrate fully my Speedway time on the Hammers

It doesn't say that in my copy. Have you got a different issue of SS or did you just make that bit up to get a bit of attention ?

Yes I do it to wind people up like yourself who are blinkered to the way Speedway is heading and since my last comment Mr Cook has stepped down from his former position on the management committee to concentrate on his own Club, oh might have made that up as well.

The Friday John Cook story (resignation) does see, significantly at odds to this weeks Soeedway Star interview. One can only assume that the direction of the AGM is opposed to that of the views conveyed in the interview.

On the issue of 3 years before being allowed to vote. This is yet another anomalie that doesn't exactly welcome new investment into the sport. I know of one or two extremely wealthy individuals (who I woukd count as close friends) that currently back PL and Championship football teams who regularly look at the whole speedway picture and basically give it a wide berth. On purely a personal note, I would never give any money/sponsorship to any individual associated with the governance of the sport.

No not a question of being blinkered , just pointing out that you quoted Jon Cook as saying something in SS that he didn't say , and that misleads people who haven't read the article.

Your quote was that he said all is well with no need for change, but that's not what he said at all. He set out what he sees as the positives and negatives, but he did highlight things that need attention. You might not agree with what was said and, it might be a valid point to say it doesn't go far enough, but that's not the same as saying he thinks all is well and no change is needed.

This is the trouble with these sort of threads. It is indisputable that the sport has a long list of deep problems that are worthy of discussion, but then we always get idiots over egging the pudding and making things uo, over and above the actual problems then others start believing them and that does the sport no favours either.

As for him standing down from the MC , everyone at Lakeside has seen for along time that being on the MC has been a distraction from running his own club. He has wanted to stand down for some time but none of the other lazy s%ds want to take the job on.

Will it be a yes man or someone strong enough to stand his ground for something that is worth while.

I exchanged PM,s with a current promoter (on here) a couple of weeks ago about the same subject and he questioned whether their was anyone clever enough on the BSPA to actually change something for the good of the sport, his thoughts were that those that have past tried gave up because of some of the long standing opposition and the politics of the organisation.

So I ask the question can anyone point me to an idea or suggestion adopted that one of the BSPA MC has initiated that has taken this sport forward and been accepted by many on here as a genuinely good idea.

I think overall there's more for than against with the meeting point scoring system. But the only negative to it is the fact home teams can have tactical rides. To gain the full positives of the scoring system the T/R's have to be scrapped for home teams IMO
