Bspa Meeting...

On Liecester Lions website David Hemsley has posted today what he want to put forward at the AGM. Change the FTR to one young British rider and another from your own choice be it a British lad or an overseas rider. Not really helping to bring the British lads on, but I can see the point there that some of the FTR are not up to the standard of the top FTR so giving an unfair advantage to the team that has got those riders.

We will have to see what happens but I think it will be something along those lines. It may take them a few weeks to let us the speedway fans know what they have been up to, but sure as God made little green apples it will not be anything to help British speedway.

A better idea would be for the top average reserve to have rides against heat leaders as well as second strings, that would allow for a better format and if it were too big a step he would probably soon be the number two reserve for a month. Some of the better reserves were already starting to beat heat leaders when they came in as a substitute. I wouldn't give up on British reserves after just one season and with fewer teams likely next year, it will eliminate most of those who did less well this year.

Tips for the BSPA meeting.

Speedway GB has never been in such a mess time for a complete shake-up.

1. Get back to the basics.

2. Do a list of what's good.

3. Do a list of what's bad.

1. BASICS:

Speedway should be about 4 riders of similar ability racing for 4 laps on a well prepared track - this is guaranteed to give close & hopefully exciting racing.........not rocket science.

Presentation can be abysmal, track preparation like wise, yet has the BSPA ever ran training days for either?

Teams should have continua-tee season to season, loyalties should work both ways. Fans & local sponsors get cheesed off with wholesale changes.

2 & 3 please post your list........ trouble is will any promoters take any notice?

Trouble is certain Promoters are already looking at cost cutting measures, instead of how to improve the product. They seem to have the idea they are doing everything right, and it is the fans fault for not going to speedway meetings. I agree with you speedway needs to go back to basics, starting with massively simplifying the rule book, which is one of the most interpretive piece of work in modern times. The BSPAbeing a closed club, and a law unto themselves, it is unlikely they will take heed. You will know bt Monday.

Firstly top flight speedway is untenable on Fri/Sat due to doubling up and FIM meetings. Have everyone race on Wed and/or Thurs. Scrap farce track and instead have minimum of two GB riders per team but do have compulsory Brit reserve at No.7 in the PL. Get rid of tactical ride. Core fans loathe it and anyone watching at home must think it laughable. Instead give team six behind choice of gates and which rider to put where and allow the point scoring system to do the rest. Maybe one old style tac sub when team is at least 8 points down. Give us back the old race formula. Heats 5 and 6 - absolute joke - there must have been north of 50% of the former ending in predictable 5-1,s overall in the Elite League. Squads not tenable but introduce grading. Just ludicrous that Poole couldn't replace Ward with Holder and I'm a Bees fan FFS! Change rubbish playoff formula in the PL and replace with Swedish league version Ie 6 v 3, 4 v 5 winners meet top two etc.

Yep, it's a closed shop. But anybody can join them, and vote on things, so what's to stop others doing it. Ah, it would mean using their own money.

Dave, the fans are voting, with their feet, and taking their money with them. Don't forget the fan uses his own money every week, the cumulative allows speedway to operate from the income it makes or does not make at the gate. The promoter that puts a million pounds into a speedway team with no paying fans, simply loses a million pounds.. He probably then blames the fans for not supporting him or her.

Predictably after reading The Speedway Star this week their is little chance of the sport turning the corner with self interest controlling and all pulling in different directions, according to Jon Cook all is well with little need for change, sorry but get real, you Sir are not paying good money to watch the product served up, not a patch on years gone bye.

After reading the Star, I thought of the three wise monkeys, except we have a couple of dozen wise monkeys

Perhaps what they are aiming at is for speedway to be run behind locked doors with no supports and no listings to give any results. They could then cheat all they wanted and change their teams so that they could win the league, because the way they are going about things that is what is going to happen in the all to distant future.

Do they want the fans to come and see good speedway or are they just happy to see it decline so far down the path, that they have no choice but to close down all the stadiums.

It seems that way

Allegedly one of the proposal so so far is to not announce teams till the start of heat 4. To stop people printing their own score sheets off the Internet!

My response is " You sad barstewards "

Surely Speedway has alot bigger problems than that to be sorted out for heavens sake!
