Pl Playoff Final Somerset Vs Edinburgh 24th October!

Recommended Posts

Great show from Somerset last night but as I said in an earlier post I feared that the loss of Brady and Olly could be the undoing of us. It's always dodgy with guests especially at No 1 as we found out to our cost in 2012 and it appears that Kennett was pretty awful from the comments on here. Great stuff from all the proper Rebs in the way that we have battered just about everyone this term at our place. I hope Summers can at least get into double figures tonight for us, safe journey up to all who are travelling, win or lose it's been great following the 2014 rebels this year.

So the Smugs could win this on the tac ride rule , what a farce !!! Surely in the playoff grand final the tac should be scrapped . Don't think 12 points is enough to take to the Glory Field , and going on tonight's performance they don't deserve it , vulnerability showed once again ..... Or maybe the track was too slick , on their second bikes, meaningless match , let the excuses begin . Go for it tomorrow Rebels, these lot are a two/three man team

Nonsense, if things go a bit wonky for them, Somerset will have just as many chances tonight to use a tactical ride as Edinburgh had last night.

wouldn't have expected anything else from craig cook and Edinburgh monarchs number 1 fan.

Comical!

I thought it was called having an opinion which is what you do on here only if it agrees with the opinion's of the smug's if it doesn't then this is normally how they react

Excellent hard fought racing in front of a bumper crowd and considering the amount of rain the track was superb. Good decisions by the Ref when Fricke and Cook moved at the start in their respective races, but penalised themselves so ref let race continue. Just hope whoever wins it is clear cut and the stupid tactical does not make the difference.

.... considering the amount of rain the track was superb.

Last night the track wasn't even fit for the home riders due to the rain earlier in the day.

Sorry 'Brummie Rebel' but I have to agree with oldtimer. Nothing wrong with the track at all. It was different than usual but it was still fit. The track staff must have performed miracles after all the heavy rain.

Shame about the guest who really didn't live up to his pedigree let alone cover for Olly sufficiently. No use being sorry about your performance in a meeting in which you were required to do well in considering the importance.

It certainly is nicely poised if the Rebels can do themselves justice. If they get battered then the Monarchs deserve the title. If they perform well it could go down to the wire. Don't know if my nerves can't stand following it live. May just dip in now and again. What will be, will be.

PS: It's a win-win situation after last nights performance really. Win, if we win after loosing Olly, win if the Monarchs batter us and thus deserve to be champions, win (but disappointing) if we just loose out in a close 2nd leg - at least we will have done ourselves proud.

Absolutely love going to the OTA and wasn't disappointed (except the trek to the bog from the backstraight). Some great races mainly from the Rebels when monarchs gated. Im not a fan of this TR rule in 2 legged matches but its there to be used so be stupid not to if chance came up.

Monarchs were led by a great Cookie (one heat apart) and Masters leading the way with small back up from Fricke and very lesser extent Sedgy. Felt Fox was right on the pace most races and improved each race, best iv seen him ride away with little reward. Deek was just wasn't at the races Rebels were great and looked dangerous in every heat shame Kennett didnt.

Onto the Dale now. Can see the whole team scoring better than they did last night and more than capable of winning by 12+. These Rebels are no mugs tho.

All to play for

You really need to get some new material Mr Gaz as your Monarchs stuff is wearing a bit thin tbh mate..your obsession with all things Blue & Gold/Team Smug (For acting smug read having a laugh and adding some humour Gaz..something that i thought you Weegionians were famed for ;) ) is really becoming a big worry..why don't you come & join us on the dark side :P i thought Jammy Dodgy's statement/opinion that 'Monarchs are a 3 rider team' was laughable and a frankly ridiculous thing to say based on one hard fought match on a wettish track against a strong team. After the season we've had as a whole, his 'thoughts' made me laugh and i treated it with what i thought was a pretty measured response

didnt somerset win the title by virtue of having a tac ride and the opposition never??... Sure someone did.... Scunny maybe?

You have the right Final (2012), Scunny did indeed have a tactical in Heat 11 at the Oak Tree Arena, which Josh Auty converted into 6-points, whilst Somerset went through both legs without using a tactical, only to lose by the single point, but that's all ancient history now.

Like it or loathe it, it's part of the rules and we're stuck with at the moment.

I for one won't be crying about it if the Rebels need to use one to carry off the crown tonight, especially as the Monarchs had to use two last night to restrict us to a 12-point lead. It's all part of the game. :D

Sorry I could have worded it different to be honest. I meant that the track threw a few of the riders last night. As they said on the centre green. It was different to what it has been and they still rode it brilliantly. I was just trying to put across that even though we didn't have the same style of track the boys were still the better team, without any home advantage.

Maybe lol :D Nah seriously Spinny..i'm a pretty calm laid back person (although i wont be come tapes up tonight!) But..what i'm passionate about,i'm really passionate about. When i feel unjustified crap is being slung about my team or a rider,i'll fight my/our/their corner..and no that's not regardless whether we're right or wrong.Theres too many doing that in speedway & other lesser sports like footie lol.I've spoken out when our club has done something i don't agree with on a few occasions..As for Gaz..he's a rarity..a Glasgow Tigger i think i'd get on ok with :P I've had fun & banter on here with him for a few years now..it's all good! What he does have to address though is his denial in wanting to cross 20 odd miles along the M8 and join us over on the Dark Side, and support a decent speedway team ;) Anyways..Here's hoping it's a cracking meeting tonight at the Speedway equivalent of a penalty shootout (and we all know English teams records in those lol..) Bring it on :drink:

This is my new material Youngy my man and i am pretty offended as i have been working on this new material for over 15 mins , Alas i am no more obsessed with Edinburgh than any other team as you know i just like a wind up my only obsession evolves around greasy kebab meat usually around 12.30 on a saturday night walking up the thorn brae and after 20 years i have now worked out that i would be better off walking up the hill to the other pub going out then come 12.30 it will be a downhill walk are you surprised :D .

Careful, you are in danger of being called Smug........

Why would I be smug - I'm not a Somerset fan.

It's just the laughable attempts to suggest that Somerset is not a good race-track, simply because the Rebels win most of their home meetings by healthy margins. That's complete baloney.

It's an excellent race-track... nearly as good as Scunthorpe (you call me smug about that one if you like ;) ).

All the best

Rob

Enjoyable evening at the OTA. Meeting run through at a good pace, especially considering both teams were using r/r.

Came away with slightly mixed feelings, felt Monarchs threw away a few silly points, but ultimately felt happy with the margin of defeat as it could have been worse. Rebels are very strong at home and tonight's match will be a big test for them.

If it wasnt for the horrible traffic on the M5 I would visit more often, about 3 hours to get there, but home in under 2.

Special mention to Aaron Fox last night, who really improved as the night went on. Had he been able to ride a little wider he would have scored a few more. He certainly made for a few good races in the second half of the match.

Would like to think Monarchs can finish the job tonight but it will not be easy and could go down to the last couple of heats.
