Elite League Grand Final 1st Leg - Coventry Friday 17th October

Recommended Posts

If you were a barmy conspiracy theory junkie who tries to see things in situations that aren't there, you may feel that Sky's perceived infatuation with a particular team would encourage them to delay the start of a random meeting when it was known that precipitation was due to arrive at a specified time in order to disadvantage the opposition.

You'd need to be a right nutter to believe that though :D

SKY are a complete and utter joke!!...ALL DAY its been forecast that rain is coming yet they buggered about and never attempted to get on with the meeting once. There was absolutely no excuse for all 15 heats not to have been over by a little after 8.30 yet all we got was the usual bull and crap from "Shouty and Screamer" and the tedious and unnecessary (under the circumstances) interviews and endless tedious replays!.

Utter pathetic and sadly sums up the whole of this Elite league seasons coverage really.

Such a shame that Elite league British speedway would really struggle to survive without those SKY fools, so looks like we're stuck with them :(

An absolute blessing to Coventry that meeting called off when it did.

What an absolute let down from too many riders - Anderson, what a shocker - has he a pre contract arrangement for Poole in 2015, cus there was no effort from the guy tonight.

Ben tried, but wrong time to come back.

Hansen got points, but mainly gifted to him. can't understand why so much faith put in him by the coventry management - he has struggled for far too long.

Garrity played second fiddle to Newman yet again.

However Bomber riding like we know he can and as for Kyle Howarth, good on the lad. These two wanted it badly - don't reckon the rest did though.

Looking on the bright side, I now gonna save time and money on Monday having decided not to go down to Dorset.

I will still watch on Sky though.

Hope I have to eat my words by 9.30 on Monday night though.

It was stated that both captains agreed that the meeting should not continue after heat 12 and the meeting steward agreed and called a closure. As usual Havelock did'n't know who made the decision and said nobody on the Coventry side wanted to stop. Completely different story to the Chris Harris interview on camera who said it wss the right decision. (He knew that Poole would go further ahead if there were more heats.)

So Ronnie Russell called it off, good job as I think we would have lost by more than 3!

Couldn't ride on that but they should have got on with it from the start, but then again meetings never run at a decent pace at Brandon!

Was Ronnie Russell the meeting steward? Really?

Not seeing much of last nights fixture can only think the reason it got to a conclusion was because it started on a wetter track. Coventry's track was dry which meant it was extremely slippery on the inside when the rain came.

Have to agree that the meeting took ages to get going, now if they had a tape delay of lets say 15 mins for the benefit of interviews and the meeting had started at 19:30 all would of been ok I think. Obviously if no idiot posted live updates on the thread grin.png

Never :nono:

-Cov win tonight by at least 8! :t:

I think I was nearer than you. Coventry might have reached 42 if it had carried on.

I expect they will water the track well, this afternoon and make it nice and deep

Actually the track looked a sight lot dryer than the car park and when the racing started we were getting covered in dust......until the rain came of course.

Think it will be after 9.00, so as long as they get on with it, should be ok

With all the warnings of rain arriving around 9pm you'd think they would have got on with it, but no this is speedway so carry on as normal and don't bother to start the meeting until 7.50pm either. No rush.

Shouldn't they have started bang on half past with the rain threat

That's just too sensible.

They have , have the rules changed?

Apparently a riders bike has to touch the tapes before he can be excluded so any part of his body or peak of the helmet doesn't count.....so we were told by the announcer tonight anyway. Edited by Gemini

According to Shoutty & Nicey they claimed that the referee said it was only the bikes that mattered tonight. That might of been due to the wind billowing the tapes?

It's taken me ages to become even semi regular at speedway again. Then rubbish like tonight happens. We knew the rain was coming, it actually turned up late, so how did they handle it? Well they just ignored it. They got though 15 heats in 70 minutes at Poole last night and should have aimed for similar tonight.

Then, after racing half a meeting in the rain last night at Poole someone decided that we should only have two heats in the rain tonight before calling it off. Either rush to avoid the forecast rain OR ride in the rain. I don't care which, just don't rob me of 3 heats.

1 man gained from 3 less heats being run tonight. One of the few people not interviewed after the meeting. Nobody else seemed to want it off and seemed to be confused about why the last 3 heats were off.

A new rule just for one night then? Can't wait for the next time it happens and the rider gets excluded. Should be interesting.

League racing has been bike touching the tapes only since as far as I can remember (mid 90s) while FIM is bike or rider.
