Lakeside 2015

Recommended Posts

Great. So next time a team has to go to a track that one of their riders doesn't like just claim he's "unavailable" and good a guest!

I don't know how these things work but at the time of last night's match Lakeside had re-declared their side using Boxall as a permanent replacement for Birks who is eighth in the list of EDR tier one riders. Boxall was in the initial list but because he wasn't the chosen one his ranking must be ninth or lower. Therefore, they couldn't move back up the 'food chain' to re-instate Birks without BSPA approval but probably have it now. In all this I am reading 'unavailable' as ineligible. Still, as I said, what do I know!

It works in 1 of 2 ways.

1. Boxalls was in the 1-7. The rules state that you cannot have a guest for a rider who although in your 1-7 has not raced for you. So not guest for Boxall.

2. The 1-7 was reverted back to the 1-7 with Birks (the BSPA site suggests this is the case). This means Birks, if not riding PL has to ride. If he doesn't not guest is allowed.

So it was use Birks or nobody. God only knows now Wright was allowed to guest.

By default being FTR riders means you cannot use R/R so therefore the only option is a guest or another squad rider except we don't use squads, although the standard of guest could be called into question, in this scenario as SCB points out there is a discrepancy with the use Boxall so assuming James Wright is on a standby list for grade A riders then a grade B rider would probably be more in line with any ruling.

Just my opinion but i think it was mistake in the first place to reserve Adam Ellis and forfeit the chance of getting a Lewis Blackbird as the clubs top FTR, i also would not have changed for Boxall as that just means when Rye are racing we have to find two guests at once.

I feel their home form will save them the ultimate embarrassment but still see them as a 6th or 7th place team this season, i would also be amazed if this current sept lasts the season without more chopping and changing due to rider availability or poor scores in the EL.

Having been replaced, perhaps Birks had made other plans? Was writing his 'up yours' letter? Had gone on a short break? Couldn't be contacted by text?? :D

And then 'special dispensation by the MC'!

I wouldn't blame him if he had I guess. But that means no facility. So it should have been a blank.

if you read social media, which i'm sue the club doesn't there seem to be rumblings concerning the hammers. Possible track closure, track staff unhappy, even @lakesidelive commenting on twitter that monday's meeting will be his last. That with Vatcher's brain fart in heat 15 last night and long term fans vowing not to go to future meetings, are we going to see a Brummies type mid season bye bye ?

That would do British Speedway the world of good! It's alright quoting rules but you need to see the bigger picture too - and it's not as if any replacement will score heavily given his FTR position!

Would be very surprised if Lakeside did not at least complete the season but i do expect it all to end in a whimper than a bang, unfortunately since Stuart Douglas became something of a silent partner its not the same club, he was always very much a fans man and people could see that, what they have left is the sort of people that think they know best and the fans are stupid and not worthy of having an opinion let alone voicing it, you even see evidence of that on here, I think you know who i mean!

Since when did the sort of people who comment on social media know anything about anything ? Most of them are almost as dumb as the people who belIieve them.

P.S. If you are going to quote @lakesidelive quote what was actually said rather than putting your own spin on it.

@Lakesidelive: Steve Boxall diagnosed with broken & fractured ribs, longer spell on the sideline ahead

Terrible that it wasn't noticed soon.

If he could stay injury free then Adam Roynon could be a good temp replacement for Boxall. Definitely has the talent.

He has the talent but not the confidence. He is terrible round Lakeside, well off the pace. That doesn't mean he'll never make it but he needs a long injury free run to hone his confidence and ability on technical tracks. In the short term he is not a suitable replacement for Boxall.

This situation highlights one of the fundamental weaknesses of the FTDR system. If a rider in the bottom half of the tier gets hurt it is almost impossible to find a rider of roughly similar ability to replace him.

I know Neal Vatcher gets a lot of criticism on here from time to time, but i'd just like to publicly thank the BSPA for organising it, and him for coming to Macon in the south of France straight from last Fridays meeting and spending all day and evening at Adam's side. He was on top of the game in terms of motivation, points needed and keeping Adam calm. We were unlucky not to get the win, but to be only a point behind a quick Czech and in front of some fast Poles and Germans was a great feeling .

Onwards and upwards to the final in Denmark.
