stevebrum
There is already a thread and this is clearly a trolling post. Highly insensitive too.

SCB
Binley Woods residents have been invited to a meeting at the village hall to discuss proposal of a new housing estate on Brandon speedway stadium . Seeing as we supposed to have two seasons left according to Sandhu things seems to be moving very quickly . Will post news after meeting. He's hardly moving quickly. Meeting in the village hall, 2 years to get planning permission etc which I doubt is going to be a formality. It's not he's moving fast, it's that the fans are moving slowly to do anything about it. Or the building of the new stadium is going slowly. Why not just build the houses on the land that he's going to build the new stadium on? robert72
I heard that a rugby club were going to take the land over (not london wasps who have bought the ricoh arena) No news on a new venue for either speedway or the sky blues

Wasps will want them to stay there and ccfc still have the option of owning 50%. We have no idea what the plans are yet so let's just wait and see. For all we know they may just want to build a small amount of houses on the site and keep the stadium, who knows!
speedybee
Campaign group 'Save Coventry Speedway' now set up on Facebook..all welcome!
brianbuck
I hope this group will get the full support of all speedway enthusiasts. Brandon is an institution in speedway and needs all our efforts to keep it up and running. If we can't shame the owners into scrapping these plans then we need to convince Coventry/Rugby Council to insist that an alternative venue be up and running before Brandon is handed over to the property vultures.
mrlincolncity
Will be sad to see brandon go, if that happens. Heres hoping not
TitusTokio
Planning permission will be far from a formality in a location like Brandon. Takes a lot to have massive new estates built in villages.
BTFC LION
To make thins easier for planning, would the stadium be closed down for a period of time? Would that make a change of use on the land easier to get.
Starman2006
So first things first. Clearly developers are hell bent on carrying this out, i mean, think of all that money and council Tax !! Ger Granville Fer Fetch the till..Rub Rub..Secondly, Where are Coventry going to go?Thirdly, will the entrance to the stadium become the access road? Takes a lot to have massive new estates built in villages. maybe 10 or 20 yrs ago that was true but i'm not so sure now, it's all about money. green belts and brown belts are just something to stop a karate experts trousers falling down. now if you had a mp or someone on the local council living in the village, now thats a different matter altogether.

MattK
Your best bet is to cut a deal with the developers. In exchange for backing the developers plan, the speedway receives a downpayment of 10% of the profits of the housebuilding, in order to build a new stadium elsewhere. Say the plan is for 400 houses, with a profit of £100,00 per house. That is £40m, so 10% would be £4m towards a new stadium. Didn't Horton have plans for some kind of motorsports complex in Peterborough? Transplant that to Coventry and get the council to provide the land. You'd get a brand new, purpose built speedway stadium with the club as landlords - for free!
P T Preece
Sighed. great idea mattk, but didnt Reading agree a similar deal when they let there stadium go and we all know how that finished up.

deanr1
Could we merge this with the thread in SDG please It's in the EL section now, I asked for it to be moved as it wasn't generating much interest in SGD. I agree it's pointless having 2 threads going about the same thing and is detrimental to the cause.
mikebv
Isn't there a cross party group of speedway friendly MP's?? Time to give them a bell and get them down to fans' meetings alongside the sitting MP...

I woulden't say cost is the biggest issue to Coventry relocating as finding a suitable site without any nimbies within the immediate 45 miles trying to scupper it.
