Ozrik
Given his form at the time, and his former GP status, i dont think Masters, Sedgeman et al... would have disagreed. From here on in though, it is the fairest way of determining the wc. Think MA were trying to consolidate the importance of the Aussie title series. It is the showcase series in Aussie speedway these days and they are looking for incentive to ensure the best riders compete in the series. It is quite some time since DW competed in the title (2011 i think), and that was also the last time many fans here got to see him ride in person. There are some other riders who pass on competeing. So you can see what MA are trying to achieve, and it works in Britain. Edited September 28, 2015 by Ozrik
Reviresco
Australia's Seven Network giving the upcoming GP and the sport a mention in a recent AFL Pre-Game show with the assistance of a former World Champion and AFL legend Jason Akermanis (born in Mildura): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bNPyIcfBPoY&feature=youtu.be
shoestringtours
seem to remember last time in Sydney riders dropped out and I think Mick Poole had to be summoned off the building site to make the numbers up. A gp down under really has to be the first one in my opinion.
PHILIPRISING
ONLY permanent riders not to make the journey were Carl Stonehewer, who had missed the previous two runs through injury, and Grzegorz Walasek ,who had missed three previous rounds. Of course, 24 riders competed in those days (one of the reasons David Lander found the costs so high) and from memory think there was two wild cards ... Steve Johnston was certainly one. Jason Lyons and Mick Poole also rode. October is the only time of the year when the Etihad stadium is available. Crump, Sullivan and Adams, who finished 2,3, and 4 overall. Crump finished third in Sydney. Wiltshire also was a permanent rider, but had little success that year. As you point out for the Sydney GP Johnston, Lyons and Poole also rode via wildcard, although i'm not sure how Poole got in the field. Rumor mill has it that Melbourne GP ticket sales look good so far.

SCB
What a waste of time this will be as a GP now. Top 3 and top 8 sorted. Only thing to race for now is 2nd between Greg and Nicki. Shame really.

customhouseregular
This is always going to be a possibility with the last GP of the series wherever held. I'm sure it will be a great night anyway.
Terry
Ironic really that Rickardsson had it won before the first Aussie gp and now Woffy's done the same.

Panthers89
One of them things sadly, rather have that than a F1 double your point job in the last race.
Reviresco
Unfortunate that Australia and New Zealand have not been able to co-ordinate when they have staged SGPs. Would have made the 10,000/12,000 mile trips more cost and time beneficial. It would probably be better if the 'fly-away' GP was the first, rather than the last round, but apparently October is the only time the Etihad can host the event. Humphrey Appleby
Unfortunate that Australia and New Zealand have not been able to co-ordinate when they have staged SGPs. They'd need to find hosts first, which was first a problem in Australia and now in New Zealand.
Reviresco
They have found hosts in both in the past. 2002 at Telstra. 2012 -14 at Western Springs. Now 2015 at Etihad. As I said, they have not been able to co-ordinate this yet.......

As I said, they have not been able to co-ordinate this yet....... The 2002 host lost a packet which is why it only lasted a year, and the NZ host also decided enough was enough. Nothing to do with a lack of coordination but a lack of promoters willing to lose money on an ongoing basis. It's not really up to 'Australia' and 'New Zealand' (whoever they may be) to coordinate anything anyway. That should be BSI's job as series organisers, although the cost savings of doing an Antipodean double header may not be as much as people imagine. iris123
There was a time not so long ago when a man in the know was also talking about the possibility of Malaysia and some other Asian country being on the 'fly away' schedule!!!!!
