Australian Gp Is Back

Recommended Posts

HAVEN'T seen much praise on here about the track. I'm not in Melbourne so can only comment from afar but it looked terrific and the extra size provided plenty of racing lines. It was still smaller than the new one at BV which is currently in the process of being laid.

You can read more about the track laying process at the Etihad on speedwayXtra, via speedwaystar.net

The track was excellent, as was the racing.

If they could lift the whole track up, including the racing surface, and take it to Belle Vue then that would be amazing.

Greg rides were pretty damm good, especially for a 45 year old, and he had to race hard to get a couple of those wins.

I think the Aussies were too hyped up i.e. Jason Doyle, Troy Batchelor and Sam Masters. Only Chris Holder kept his feet on the ground.

Nicki bikes just not on song last night. Shame.

But very pleased to see KK get back to something like he used to be, pity it was the last GP this year.

Likewise AJ. Two exciting riders IMO.

Some good gating from Chris Harris, sadly his result was familiar.

Think Tai showed where his heart lay re singing Aussie national anthem and then wearing his hat and talking again for part of the UKs anthem.

If all GPs were like that the season would be really good. Ditch the venues where racing is poor, and get the indoor tracks sorted like they were following the Warsaw fiasco.

2016 wild cards...... def Hample and Kildemand, with AJ and Lindback.

Conspiracy theory....Masters did what he did to take away the heat from the poor turn out of the convicts, a mere crowd of 27,000 will only mean one thing when looking at bottom line figures....."why the fekk are we having GPs in Oz"!!

I wouldn't have phrased it that way - but it is a good question.

Not much if anything to disagree with there my friend. If only they could get that track in to Cardiff it might be worth going.

Is not speedway an International sport spanning several continents?. In stead of why Oz...why not the US of A?.

Another good question to which I don't know the answer.

On second thoughts - probably Costs?

If tai was going to help holder would he really have fallen like that risking injury and machine? It was clear that he picked up unexpected drive entering the corner which sent him wider and deeper than he wanted. Surely an engine 'failure' or a simple slide off would have been easier and less risky rather than a high speed off a few feet from the fence?

An engine failure wouldn't have caused a rerun so would have been no help to holder.

I agree, I don't think he fell deliberately though

Really? How many of the European GPS exceed that crowd? Could equally ask then why we have gps anywhere outside UK and polandvif that's the benchmark

I would have expected a USA GP had it been held this year in LA, particularly with an American as reigning champion to have attracted a bigger crowd than most European GP's. Did not Terenzano have a ridiculous crowd capacity of 4,000.

Re costs...would transporting people and equipment to LA not be cheaper than going to Melbourne?.

Speedway GP brought to you by monster... Surely a conflict of interests? Tai going down yesterday didnt look right imo, What odds Lindback getting a wildcard next year also riding under the Monster banner.... Cynical i know, and maybe not the case..but its becoming like team mates in an individual competition, gang culture :)

Lindback isn't sponsored by Monster anymore, he's sponsored by Black Ant energy drink.

Well, I'm going to praise our boy for his racing in his first GP ......superb Sam!!!

As for the handbags, Nicki should stop taking other riders lines if he doesn't like a thick ear!!!

It was a great race and Sam passed NP cleanly on the second lap, only for NP to cut back then shoot across the track to the fence taking Sam's line enforcing him to lift his leg out the way and back off the throttle to avoid a crash. A very typical NP move to stop the opposition in their tracks. Such a regular occurrence that it would seem no-one except Sam and myself noticed it......

I'd like to know what the mechanic said to Sam as he obviously took the heat away from Nicki but continued to stir the pot!!!

Just for the record, I am not one of the NP haters

Best wishes to Jason Doyle

Plenty of worse moves in every gp, including saturday, than anything Nicki did in Melbourne. Doyle has knocked off more riders than anyone this series.

Masters was a tool, which overshadowed a very creditable performance

Oh yes...I forgot Warsaw. Still makes Melbourne a huge success though...yes?.

27000 for a speedway meeting is a success in anyone's book, and with sensible ticket pricing, sensible hotel prices it could be more.

Cardiff please take note.

Yes, fair point but NP definitely wasn't the "innocent victim" nor was his mechanic
