Australian Gp Is Back

Thats not great is it?

I'd have said it's not too bad if the figure reflects full price tickets. There will undoubtedly be some walk-ups, so it's probably reasonable for a non-speedway region.

Of course, attendances have been known to be exaggerated in the past, and there's often a pattern of declining attendances after the first year.

The tickets are a set price apparently, £23 give or take with kids half that.

Hope Pedersen can get the silver medal

Me too, the way Team Monster have been critical of him since Greg lived up to his COCK name is pathetic, so I hope NP does take that silver. Team Monster can dish out hard racing, but can't take it.

I am also pleased that Tai won his crown in Europe for his European fans. I still think it is wrong that for the next few years most European fans wont get an opportunity to see their World Champion being crowned in Europe. I don't begrudge the Aussie GP getting the finale, but I do begrudge the fact they get the finale for the next few seasons.

Non speedway region??? Seriously?? In what terms of reference is that statement made? The city of Melbourne has no track, however speedway in Australia is alive and well. Dont dismiss Australia because we don't have league racing.

Unlike some have suggested, we don't have heavies forcibly dragging people in off the street, and they're not giving away tickets. Sponsorships were sold as packages. Anything over 30k will be a success, and who knows what effect national promotion would have had. Tickets range from $49 to round $250 depending on seat. You do the sums, if they can't make that work, then take it back to Finland.

Get down here and have a look!!

I was referring to Melbourne, and to some extent the wider state of Victoria. Yes, I'm aware of Mildura and I'd guess Undera, but they're some distance from Melbourne.

More generally, saying speedway is alive in Australia is like saying it's alive in Europe. Yes, Australian and Kiwi speedway fans are more likely to fly or drive to a GP, but the long distances are still going to limit the casual audience.

Where did I say 30k wouldn't be a success? In fact I think that would be a pretty good crowd for an Australia GP, but I've followed the SGP long enough to take unverified ticket sales with a pinch of salt. For example, I think the first NZ GP was initially reported as 25k, but the actual numbers turned out to be well below this.

They're not having it. Story in todays paper quotes promoter Kosonen that lack of crowd was a major factor. Also continues about BSI blocking plans for a track that would have been a 100 meters shorter and how BSI didnt advertise this years GP enough as they were busy dealing with warsaw... So basically BSI's fault. = )

Philippe will tell you it's the local promoter's job to advertise the GP, and weren't we told that the track had to be the shape it was because of some football championship to be played at some point in the future (ignoring the obvious fact there was no pitch at the time).

And I bet Phillippe is right about it.

The drainage of the stadion was the problem. Even if the locals sugarcoated it to be a pitch problem (and now it does have a pitch, been fir a month or so since I first saw it).

Anyway, Ratina SGP is now history. End of.

Its not bad either. I read the stadium think there will be a decent walk up to the event.

Not a thing in either of Melbourne's daily papers today.

There has been quite a lot on the tv and radio apparently. Sam Masters and Jason Crump done their bit today according to various twitter feeds. Read a lot on twitter today too especially from the stadium itself.
