orion
Still stayed in Britain so leaving to go to Hamburg might have been a better example:-) The point is thou people start at the bottom before moving onto better things ...PK just like any other person is sadly moving on . Crazy robin
Congratulations to Steve Worrall for his Rider of the season award & thoroughly deserved as without him Swindon wouldn't have made the play offs.
1 valve
I think we have to be realistic, the top riders have too many meetings if they ride in 3 leagues, GP qualifiers & GP's. The UK will always loose out as there is more to earned in Poland & for the Scandinavians, Sweden offers less travelling for probably the same sort of money. Do we as supporters really want an 18 meeting season, 9 home & 9 away. I for one would settle for a full season with lower grade riders. If PK does not want to ride, surely Jason Doyle should be the man for us. One of the big problem British speedway causes foriegn based riders is the number of differing nights we have racing in the UK. meaning that they have to travel back and forwards in one week to complete two or more meetings. Given that Elite league clubs need to run a home meeting most weeks (rather than every other week) then it makes sense to have two consecutive nights rather than (say) Monday and Thursday. benefit being, less travel and rested riders. I know the devil is in the detail but frankly sometimes you have just got t work through the challenge to get to the right answer. Crazy robin
Interesting that Steve gives alot of credit to both Rosco & Troy about how they both helped him & were always there for advice etc.
MattK
The bit at the bottom where he says “I’m not sure what is happening next year yet but hopefully I will be back at the Abbey.” kind of makes you question the credibility of everything else he says in the article. Pirate Nick
Still stayed in Britain so leaving to go to Hamburg might have been a better example:-)Left England, played for Hamburg and got European player of the year. Another example of a professional sportsman going abroad for more money and also improving?
A ORLOV
Did anyone who posts on here go to end of season do on Sat as can find no writeups in adver etc. The only news I have seen is that Steve rightly got the award for rider of the season. Was there any other info or news? Edited October 27, 2014 by A ORLOV
Crazy robin
Left England, played for Hamburg and got European player of the year. Another example of a professional sportsman going abroad for more money and also improving? Was replaced by "King Kenny" who was twice the player he was as well & improved Liverpool no end. marko
I would get shot of Batchelor, the way he celebrated helping Poole win the league not too mention having a go on wet tracks when he shys away from them normally was insulting to Robins fans, I certainly would have felt that way. Agreed and guest riders shouldn't receive a medal either, total amateurish, rides twice and gets a winner medal round his neck, as in football if you've ridden a certain percentage of your teams league matches you qualify for a medal, Edited October 28, 2014 by noggin
Reliant Robin
I would get shot of Batchelor, the way he celebrated helping Poole win the league not too mention having a go on wet tracks when he shys away from them normally was insulting to Robins fans, I certainly would have felt that way. I disagree, Troy's commitment to Swindon has been very good - and refused to take on any guest bookings for any Club whilst Swindon were still in with a shot. Those last meetings were the only guest bookings he done all season I think. Not disagreeing that celebrating with them was a little strange, but his justification was that if he couldn't win it with Swindon, then it was Poole he wanted to win it. He also picked up the top bonus point scorer at Swindon, so on a 7.58 average looks pretty appealing. Reading various articles hinting that PK won't be in England next year, so a spearhead of Doyle & Batchelor should be the way to go with Morris also back. Looking at averages, I have to say Mads is looking like a decent shout as well.
Crazy robin
Swindon would bè mad not to use Mads as he will up his average big time & hope Doyley is back but I guess both riders will decide where they go in the end.
van wolfswinkel
Mad to have Mads back. About the only sport where you would see 2 team mates from a rival team celebrating, as on the front cover of SS. Imagine Wayne Rooney celebrating with the Chelsea team after scoring the winning goal for them!
65Sarge
In fairness to Nick & Troy, I remember seeing Leigh 'God on a Speedway Bike' Adams celebrating after winning the Elite League as a guest for Poole, and nobody on this planet would question Leigh's commitment to the Robins, perhaps we are judging the two 'guest winners' harshly? It's tough not to get caught in the euphoria of the moment.
orion
People have been watching speedway for years and there has been guests who help clubs win things so not sure what the big deal is . Speedway will never like any other sport so not sure why people try to compare the rules to football etc
frigbo
The front cover of last week's Speedway Star captures how ridiculous Speedway can be. Little wonder it can't attract new supporters when it alienates itself from most other sport in such a way. It will never attract the floating sport fan until it becomes a sport rather than a circus.
hagonshocker
Why all of a sudden is Mads in such demand by Swindon fans?...for a rider of such undoubted ability he has underachieved and year on year out his form dips alarmingly by about July..look i have always liked him personally but really do not think he should be considered merely because A. he is an asset and B. he has an 'attractive' lower average?...taking away bonus points there are lots of riders who are younger and more ambitious around. As for bringing back Doyle that is the ultimate no brainer and for the sake of there careers there are one or two of this and the previous two years side that may consider a spell elsewhere which may even freshen things up a bit at the Abbey as personally i think 2 years without a trophy should be considered way too long...i mean it's the way Poole do things isnt it so if it's good enough.........
