van wolfswinkel
We were told in 2007 that the new stadium would be built next to the existing stadium, we could watch it go up and move into it albeit unfinished in July 08. Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't this similar to what is supposed to be happening at Blunsdon? Dunno matey...think it will happen but fans getting edgy with the delay I suppose.
proud panther
Went to Blunsden before Cardiff, & have to say the developers haven't had any planning problems with the houses, there was loads built. Couldn't work out where the new stadium & car park were being built.

Couldn't work out where the new stadium & car park were being built. In car park at right-angle to current stadium about 50 yards away (between bends 1/2 where admission gates are situated). Houses now up to pits, away changing rooms were moved. Edited July 21, 2015 by haydon hat
Crazy robin
Yet again developers running council & politicians ragged on this & the houses continue to go up!!!.
stratton
Was chatting to one of the Robins main sponsors today, was concerned about the fixture list, only 1 home match in June, then 4 matches in 5 days in both July and August. Need more regular home meetings. Crowd of around 1800 against Poole last week, includes about 400 sponsors, guests, season-ticket holders, freeloaders. Even though it was tenner the poor weather and Sky cameras reduced the gate.Seems apart from the Poole clashes crowds are rarely above 1400, mostly around 1200. 17 quid is too much. Hundreds of fans stopped going when Leigh Adams said farewell. They used to take 5 coachloads to the Cardiff GP when he was in it, now only 1 coach.Preferred the old 18/19 club format with only one home clash per opponent, or north-south league. Don't think most fans want to see teams such as Wolves, Lakeside, Leicester twice a year.Hopefully with Wardy riding now and new stadia on way with excellent facilties interest and attendances will increase up at Blunsdon. Both agreed Belle Vue best team at The Abbey so far this year.Interesting post Haydon, 17 pound is to much also people who only have one meeting a month to go to easily get out of the habit of going.I thought last week for the Ward return the gate was not great and only a tenner a head i quew up everyweek how many freebies get through the gate? to many. mdmc82
Yet again developers running council & politicians ragged on this & the houses continue to go up!!!. A bit of a concern. With no building having started yet, if there is a delay will the Robins be able to stay in this stadium for longer?
A ORLOV
The build should have started but as mentioned there is a noise barrier delay. If the Council are involved we have to be careful as they only have two speeds of working, slow and stop. Swindon like many councils are absolutely hopeless.

Don't seem to have any problem building the houses, no delays there . The only worry is Osbourne Clark as he builds houses but not stadiums ...these delays blamed on others is what happens every time .

The fact the houses are going up quickly at the current stadium yet there is no sign of the new stadium being built yet and we are half way through July is a bit concerning. Look how long it took Belle Vue to get everything signed and approved and then the time period to get everything built.

They have to report housing start numbers and concentrate on that as Central Govt pay more money to Councils who build houses.
proud panther
If the stadium is being built on the car park, where will we park our cars ?
A ORLOV
If the stadium is being built on the car park, where will we park our cars ? There will be a new car park, but it will hold a lot less cars than the present one, so cars will have to park in the surrounding industrial area, if the industrial area is actually built. There has been discussion that the local park and ride area could be used, the park and ride which is now closed since the building of the park and ride area was another cock up by the council which did not work, despite them being told it would not work. Grachan
Thing is, if the stadium is built and people have a nightmare with parking, they ain't going to come so often.
skydog
Thing is, if the stadium is built and people have a nightmare with parking, they ain't going to come so often. yes but they can't possibly be seen to be encouraging people to use cars, whatever next?! We all have to be pushed into using our amazing public transport system...

And this amazing public transport system is why the park and ride lost money and closed, anyway try getting a bus to the stadium for speedway, no chance unless you want a long walk. I didn't know, but I suspected that was the case, certainly was at Reading.
MattK
Thing is, if the stadium is built and people have a nightmare with parking, they ain't going to come so often. 390 car parking spaces at the new stadium. I noticed that Moredon pitch and putt has closed. This would be a much better location for the new stadium in my opinion.

People will be parking on St.Andys Ridge estate. Can understand Moredon P&P closing, hardly anyone used it, probably didn't cover the man-in-the-hut wages. And Cheney Manor Estate road is still closed!
Crazy robin
Thought they had plans to do something knee on moredon pitch & putt site?. I'll worry about parking spaces if & when they actually start the stadium.
DunRobin
As Rose is out for 4 weeks with scaphoid injury, will the Robins replace him & if so, who with? Looking at the options, I can see Darryl Ritchings & Kyle Hughes as the obvious choice. Would it be better to ley Darryl continue to re-habilitate in the NL after his horrific injury last season & save him for next season?
