Swindon 2015

Recommended Posts

It was 1975 when Crump could and should have been World Champion had he held back on the 4 valve and unveiled it in the World Championships.

I think he scored 10 points and came 5th that year, but others had cottoned on to the 4 valves by the time they got to the final.

He came 3rd in 1976, when everyone was on them, but 1975 was the year he should have used his 4 valve advantage.

Had Crump unveiled that bike in the 1975 or 1976 final nobody would have got near him. Articles say that one reason Peter Collins won in 1976 was that his bike was so much faster than the rest of the field.

Phil Crump - certainly in 1975/1976 - was at a level that Darcy has yet to reach, and even in 1982 I remember an article in Speedway Star saying that he was probably the best rider in the World. People tend to forget just how good he was due to Jason being even better plus his later World Championship disappointments.

No way was crump even one of the top 10 riders in the world in 82.

In 76 he made the podium due to a mauger ef, and in a field missing the reigning champ.

A legend no doubt, and under a gp system he would surely have picked up a top 3 finish in 75.

But ward should certainly achieve more than Phil did imho.

In World championships I agree. I just remember one period when he was practically unbeatable week after week and the article was based on league form.

Crumpie will never go down as an all time great because his World Championship form couldn't match his league form. Ward should surpass his (an Leigh Adams')achievements in time if he keeps his nose clean. I just don't think he's quite there yet.

Not sure how you would fit Kurtz and Ward in?? Kurtz's converted average is 5.45 from July 1st.

BTW have you spent a lot of time in New York, New York?

I know my phone keeps doing it😀

Phil Crump was an excellent rider but to me he never quite reached the consistency over a number of seasons of the likes of Collins, Simmons or even Jessup.

Darcy has a lot of potential and is good to watch but at the moment I don't think he has achieved as much as Phil did and is not yet as good as Phil at his best. It will be a tremendous waste of talent if he doesn't realise his potential but if he does he could be one of the all time greats.

Really as from my memory I thought Phil was more in the top of the averages than all 3 you mention during his time at Newport, Bristol & Swindon but I could be wrong?.

I can't believe people would consider dropping Bachelor to bring in someone on a short term loan.

What happens next year, when PK decides not to come back again, Ward is at Poole and Troy has told us to get stuffed?

Likely to have Nick Morris, Jason Doyle, Hans or Killer.

Top post "grachan " Briggo said Crump should of unveiled his Street bike for the Final only and he could of won it in 75. Crump snr was a great rider for me ,chuffed Jason eclipsed him i supported him also i would say in 1975/76 T. Jansson,Collins, Crump were the only three really who could put it to Ole,Ivan on the big stage Michanek also was CLASS never forget him.

Move on? We had to sign Miedzinski this year because nobody was available. Look what's happened there. That's where these problems have come from in the first place.I'm all for seeing Ward, but let's not shut the club down in the process!!

Shut down if we can't afford his wages end of not a problem for me,but we can i believe and a few extra on the gate with him here would help also this side we have now is not good anough.

So presumably AM will have to ride at least once more - possibly longer if there is a time issue with DW's visa application??

Swindon's July team average with AM back in is 34.47, so if DW is still a real option they'll have more decimal points to lose for their 5th rider option.

(PS. Apparantly Terry Russell is with MF in Florida, according to a photo from Middlo on facebook!!!):D

I feel so sorry for the yanks.

Ward wont be influenced by next season in the commitment he will give....like previously mentioned he will want to prove any doubters wrong and in any case he is a natural born 100& fully committed rider so no worries there...who knows may like it so much may want to stay on!

I never had you down as a comedian :D

Are you for real ?i would think Ward would be thinking get sharp earn money do you think if he rides for Poole next year is his NO 1 priority?.He needs to get back in the GP series and that will be pretty difficult really hard! earning pocket money for Poole in 2016 won't be his priority. I am a Spurs fan.....therefore I am not a glory hunter :t:

We're not talking about Football mate, when I started to go back to speedway, mid /late 80's Oxford were a top team and only a short trip up the road, which I made most weeks because i enjoyed speedway and went as a neutral, not to glory hunt, Swindon are my team win lose or draw, even when suffering back to back wooden spoons and relegation.... :t:
