Poole 2015

Recommended Posts

While you have proved you can do mathematics, you said yourself Holder scored well last time at Wolves and i don't think anyone was thinking of getting rid of Holder as we all know what he is capable of and the rider Matt Ford considered dropping him for was Magic!! Gomolski had to lay his bike down in heat 14 to avoid North so he should have scored paid 6 which is pretty good for a rider known not to like Monmore Green, so i would expect a good showing tonight, i think he is worth keeping. It isn't worth completely wrecking the team for one rider, your scenario may have worked at Wolves but we have stronger teams to play against where we will need a team of riders who are all capable of scoring points.

Although i wouldn't say there is nothing that can't be improved on.

If Poole can't beat Wolves tonight they all want sacking!!!!!!!!!!

@nedpayne_echo: Ford in prog notes: "There is one potential change we could make over the next fortnight... I am keeping a very close eye on the situation."

Howarth maybe? (If averages become low enough 😉)

I thought in your world we are always likely to lose

Can't be Howarth average too high for Gomolski

Deary me you got to laugh. Gomolski is 1 of 2 riders to up his average and North bangs in a maximum! I would be rushing out to change those 2!

To be fair, a lot of riders have got Maximums at home to Wolves in the last few weeks.

Kylmakorpi: full 15 point Max

Zengota: full 12 point max

Doyle: paid 14 point max

Iversen: full 15 point max

So I wouldn't judge North on tonight's performance.

Harris got a Full max away to Wolves a couple of weeks ago. Wolves have really been struggling which is why Monday's result was a shock.

According to the local paper, reading between the lines, the only rider Ford is considering dropping is Gomolski as he has said he will only consider a change after the august averages come in and the only riders whose average isn't going to drop are Janowski and Gomolski so he would change any other rider prior to the august averages coming in, especially North whose average has dropped over a point, we can't even fit Leon Madsen in for North if we wanted to, so if we dropped Gomolski which personally i think would be a bad move then we have 5.15 for the incoming rider.

Weird how reading between the lines looks different to different people, when I read the comment about how club loyalty, personalities and friendships won't stop Ford from cutting a rider, I immediately thought about Holder. When he's running well, he's superb, but his average will have dropped and I don't think he impressed Ford on Monday.

Now I don't think they're likely to cut Holder. I hope they don't, as although he has put in a few low scoring nights, overall he's been brilliant and it's been a joy to watch his confidence come back. Frankly I think it's mainly talk. Ford said himself that the riders aren't stupid, they read these articles, and I think his words are intended to light a fire under them. I believe this side can win the league with no changes, provided the riders are all performing at their best.

Apart from his first ride on Wednesday - when to be fair he was partly baulked by Watty - Chris then rode a 3-ride paid max. Nothing wrong with his confidence or his machinery in those races. He just needs to turn it up a notch away from home. BV away on Monday 3rd will be his next chance to do just that.

Ford has obviously decided not to change yet so has until the end of august, so gives himself more time to assess the situation and the only rider thats springs to mind and would fit is in my view Lindback but i really cant see it happening and although i like him and it could be argued a more exciting rider than Holder it would be a big risk.

Chris is doing well in the GP's now so I don't think he has confidence problems as Skidder says. Great to see him getting back to his old self again, he is another loyal rider to British speedway and we need a few more of them!

  • 4 weeks later...

Good to see today Matt Ford has said he won't be making any changes to the 1-7 assuming Magic isn't too badly hurt.

While I have nothing against strengthening a side where necessary and indeed, think it's something a promoter should always keep as an option, keeping the same team for a whole season is that little bit more satisfying. Whether the original line up is strong enough to win the play offs remains to be seen.

Not back to his best yet though, saw him in the Swedish league tuesday and definately a little below par still.

For Poole, it's imperative that Newman stays fit. North & Gomolski do miss-fire and occasionally Holder this season

Agreed and it is a gamble. But to be fair Gomolski especially has responded to Ford's warning in the last few weeks. Dak is a bit of an enigma, can look unbeatable bur can just as easily look like he'll never beat an opponent. Saying that I'm glad we're sticking to the original 1-7
