Scunthorpe 2015

Recommended Posts

a few riders on twitter laughing at the award going to scunny.

As EC has inferred, probably gating tarts frightened of a bit of loose shale.

Personally, I don't care what riders think as long as the surface isn't dangerous. I can remember one describing a truly appalling Leicester track as 'mint'.

Surely what counts is what fans think (they are after all the paying customers, not the paid employees) and as far as I concerned Scunthorpe is the best racing track in the country.

Ricky Ashworth coming from last to first within a couple of laps to take the win in his first season with Berwick

Josh Auty coming from nowhere to pass Tyson Nelson on the last bend to steal the win away from the Rockets in 2012

Masters posted it....

Kerr, screen, roynon, digler, cook, grieves, jacobs, doyle, aspgren, fricke, poole, kurtz, josh G... among others all favorited it....so not just gaters lol

mmmmmmmm, plenty of Edinburgh/Somerset connections in that list.... ( and Screen/Roynon/Grieves never really came to terms with the EWR whenever I've seen them ride there).

I can't blame them for effectively sticking up for their own tracks, both Armadale and the OTA are well prepared by reputation. The refs voted for Scunny, so it's a fair and square award. You're never going to get a 100% consensus among the riders.

EWR. Great track.

Cookies pass of David Howe heat 11 May 2013 one of best manoeuvres I have ever seen bullet. did you miss it?

Wonderful race track with more lines than a school punishment exercise. Well done to Scunny

No I didnt miss it but you did miss the word MOST from my comment.

first few seasons Craig cook couldnt ride the track if he didnt roll and gate only last 2 years he has started passing around there (must be all the off season practise he does there on the track he doesnt rate!!)

I also remember his first meeting there didnt make many passes then!!

Good example is ricky wells he has always moaned about the EWR track quite vocally yet now since getting to grips with it likes it!! How many riders other than edinburgh riders rate that track same as how many riders rate newcastles that dont ride there regularly! Ask any rider which is their favorite track they normally will say their regular home track the question to them all should be which is your favourite away track

I'd just like to say we the Scunny fans are privileged to watch brilliant meetings most weeks. Very rare to see a boring race. Its usually passing galore. Its a racers track and we sure do count ourselves lucky!

Well done on getting the award again. A genuine question - your track is always highly rated and you have had good teams in recent years, so why have attendances fallen? If you can't maintain good crowds, what chance have certain other tracks got?

As I say, I don't care what they say.

Its what and I my fellow supporters think that counts and I'd say Scunny is set up to entertain spectators (which they all should be) not pander to riders.

In my experience, what riders want and what spectators want are often two entirely different things and as I am paying and they get paid I'd say its my call.

I still think that was one of the best individual rides i`ve seen anywhere, not just at the EWR,quite brilliant

I was there too and I'd agree with that :approve:

The Scunny/Ipswich play off match was one of the best I saw anywhere last season.

Rob Godfrey not only has the best racing track in the country, he always tries to run meetings without delays (no intervals at Scunny) and I think he's one of best presenters in the business. To answer your question, I don't know.

EWR can be inhospitable at times but I very much hope that the switch to Friday nights only will see things improve.

I went to Scunny more than any other track last season and I can only see that increasing in 2015.

I presume you mean the weather is "inhospitable" - not the good folk of Scunthorpe ?

It's an open field with a couple of shelters, a few portacabins and a brick built toilet block. I think that it's even more susceptible to locals being put off by iffy weather than a lot of other tracks - hence the poor attendances. I hope that the numbers pick up next year or we might all be missing the great racing the track offers come 2016.

Attendances have fallen all over the country, however if you are in a Northern Industrial town where year on year the major employer sheds hundreds of jobs, its easy to see why people can't afford luxury items like speedway. If Tata does not sell to Klesch group, then the whole town is in deep dooh dah. Start of the season ends 6 months of due diligence for the prospective new employer with 10000 jobs on the line, time will tell if attendances hit rock bottom and Speedway in the town folds again.

maybe everyone got fed up of seeing Sheffield, hardly a major attraction lately as even many of their supporters seemed to stop coming but thankfully the ridiculous idea of having the 2 extra matches in the league has finished :t:
